Thanks for sharing Tamarron....I too have PS Elements. Guess I have to learn that process. It is really exciting what you can do on the developing side...if you know how to work the programs. Still got lots to learn...and your work has given me something to shoot for.

I was a little bored and going through cleaning up some stuff and came across a picture of the "ghost tree" at the Bandon Dunes golf resort I took with a Canon powershot. Like most of you, I also had a number of full moon images (Canon 60D), which by themselves are okay, but nothing to write home about. But with a little cropping, exposure tweaking and overlapping in PS Elements, I got something worth looking at.

Feel free to post anything you like here where you have taken a so-so image(s) and post-processed it (them) into a keeper.

I agree all 3 images compliment one another. I include the stark knoll as one of the objects for without the knoll the tree would be suspended in space.

I have GOT to learn layering.....can this be done in lightroom 3.5? What a fantastic result...I'm not crazy about the egg-shaped vingetting....but love the tree over the moon.

If you fall off the learning curve (Like ME), try Paint.net - it's free, and even I can try layers with it.

Timarron - one question - when you formed the vignette you gave it a 3-D look by going light to dark. Usually I see it done by feathering. How did you get the light to dark effect?

Timarrom That photo was awesome. How'd you do it?

Thanks JJ. It was really pretty straightforward, but you need to have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements or something that allows you to merge two photos. Here were my steps....

1. Cropped original tree photo down to just the tree.
2. Changed it from color to Black and White.
3. Reduced the exposure on it by about half a stop to darken a little.
4. Added the vignette.
5. Took both the tree and moon into Photoshop Elements.
6. Combined the two pictures (You have to know how to do that...)
7. Reduced the opacity on the moon a little to give it a more faded, distanced look.
8. Last thing was to do a slight amount of dodging to the foreground grass to make it more visible.

While at first glance it looks like a black and white picture, the moon still has a slight tinge of color to it. I hope that helps explain the process.

There is just something about an image in front of a full moon isn't there!!

Thank you! I like these because you can just let your imagination just go wild. Sometimes you can make something pretty nice and then somrtimes not so good, but you try again. I just use PSE9
