I had this coupon emailed to me too! An hour later I got another one telling me because I had purchased X3 in the past 90 days I could get it for another ten dollars off (off the above coupon). When you get to the corel site through the above link, scroll down and on the right side there is a box telling you to sign up for deals and coupons. Enter your email and it will give you a code for another 15 off! The shipping was free too! All in all, 14.99 at checkout!!!!

Never used Corel, what is special about it? Kind of leery of companies that charge you to download a product you have already purchased from them, to me that says our product sucks so we have to make our money somehow. Even more leery of companies that add items you did not request to a shopping cart. So is Corel just really that bad at sales, or am i correct about the quality?

I have been using it for years. If you have Photoshop, you don't really need it, but it does some stuff better than PS, mainly sorting and organizing as well as batch processing. It also has a rather more accessible interface than PS.

It's also about 1/10th the price of PS.

I think of it as a poor man's Photoshop, but there are times where it actually is my preferred tool. It's a good application ... lots of functionality and relatively easy to use. If you are happy with what you are using, then there's no compelling reason to change. On the other hand, if you aren't, it's cheap enough and worth a try.

Adobe does exactly the same thing and so does Microsoft. It's a marketing thing and it is very far from company-specific. They do NOT charge you to download a product you've purchased: if you buy the "box" the download is free. The charge, if you choose to pay it (and I don't usually), is insurance in case something happens to your hard drive after 2 years (you can re-download it for 2 years after buying it). You don't pay the insurance if you buy the box because you have a DVD in the box; it's just if you've opted for the download only which is cheaper than the box.

They make good products at a fair price. Their upgrade prices are more than fair. As I said, I've been using this line of products since it was freeware, then JASC, and finally Corel. This is not a newcomer to the scene. It was the first photo editing application I ever used and even though I have PS and other tools, I still use it because sometimes, it's just a lot easier and faster.

We may well just be arguing semantics, but I see what they're doing as bad marketing; and FWIW, I avoid the other big companies that resort to such tactics to make an extra buck as well. I guess you could go as far as to say I'm somewhat of an old hippie out to topple capitalism one company at a time, lol. Add that to the fact I have not even heard the name Corel mentioned since the mid 90's, and it makes me ask what does this software offer? Does it include features I can't find in other software I already own? Users tend to offer much better answers to these and other questions as they are not financially motivated to sway me into buying (I usually skip over perfect product reviews and go straight to the complaints to see what sort of issues have been encountered.)

I'm disabled (read limited fixed income) on top of being frugal (wth, yeah I'm cheap as all get out, lol) so I probably expect a bit more from companies I deal with than the average person; I can guarantee that I definitely give them more grief than the average consumer, lol. Definitely appreciate you posting the link and info, researching this product will give me something to do today.

Namaste

Namaste to you as well.

Corel is the originator of Word Perfect which is still selling surprisingly well and a lot of various niche graphics software. Many of their products are not for me, they are aimed more at graphic artists than photographers. I think PSP is their only entry into the market: they used to have a very stripped down version of it that was really convenient for viewing, sorting, basic cropping and stuff like that. They discontinued it years ago, but I have a CD of it and we all still use it. Very limited functionality, but takes up almost no space on the computer and does what it does well.

I like the products. I always have. You don't have to buy them. I think they are amazingly good value for the money. I live on SS Disability too and they have always been THE most economical high quality tools I could find. That you haven't heard of them is neither here nor there: they've been around and active for two decades.

Thanks for the insight. I can remember WP very well, used it extensively when it first came out. I liked it, was even quite proficient at using it, just have not used it since the 90's. Corel was a fairly popular brand back then, they seemed to have been buried by MS Word and others that followed though, hence I have not heard the name mentioned since (not that I have actually done any searches for it over the years.) I know they had other software titles back then, I just never had the opportunity to try any of them. I can definitely appreciate the insight from one who knows what having to be frugal is all about. I saw they have free trial downloads available, do you know if these are full on versions or if they are limited to key features? Getting interested in giving it a try.

I have used corel products for over 20 years for my screenprint business. Love them! I find them cheeper and easier to use then Adobe. You don't need all the plugins either. Much easier learning curve. Anything you have to take a course to use? I gave my copy of photoshop to a friend and she gave it back saying to hard. Just our opinion compared to Corel.
