I only see the option for date formats. Any ideas? What am I missing?
John Shaw wrote a cheap $10 e-book on his techniques for organizing LR which is worthwhile and can help you http://www.johnshawphoto.com/using-lightroom-2-and-photoshop-4/
I know I can create a new folder and select it for input but is there another way?

Thanks for any help.

I think this is what you're asking. You can give you sub-folder a custom name here.

WOW this is so complicated. I have LR 5 and am at a loss, I guess I better go and get lessons. I have created a folder called My Lightroom folder and put every photo I want to work on into the folder as well as on external hard drive and on iPhoto. But am having all kinds of problems finding the photos and working on them and then Saving or Save As and have no idea how to " export" to photo processor to make 11x 14 etc photos.

You could also use Keywords to create the same effect as collections. I like collections better but I don't know why :-)

Kool - never really looked at that option... I organize my photographs by date taken and use keyword and collections to sort and find as needed.

But to create/import on the fly into a new folder that looks like the trick.

Good tip!

Sandie it may seem complicated but you need a import workflow to help you get organized. As I previously mentioned in a in another reply to make it easy on yourself I would recommend John Shaw's new e-book on organizing light room. It is worth the $10 http://www.johnshawphoto.com/using-lightroom-2-and-photoshop-4/ I have been using light room for a number of years and upon reading John Shaw's e-book learnt and found new ideas to help my workflow and have incorporated some of those into my Lightroom

Sandie:

Many of the issues people have staring off with Lightroom seem to revolve around file management. The big key is do all file management from within Lightroom till you understand that it only sees images that have been IMPORTED into its catalog.

There are many books and videos on Lightroom and workflow, as Mborn mentioned. Adobe is full of helpful videos on all their products.

Actually my biggest issue with LR is poor performance when you have a slower computer.
