So many nasty people out there! Sad!

BTW, I have a Roadtripper and love it. I agree it is not the most stable of tripods but always does the job. I bought it because I travel a lot and can fold it to fit in my carry-on luggage or attach it easily to any backpack. I put a Manfrotto 322RC2 joystick head on it and cap it off with my Nikon D200 and 80-400mm lens. Just bought a Canon 5DmkIII but awaiting the updated 100-400 before switching to Canon for wildlife photography.

Although the Roadtripper is a lightweight, it is so portable and well made, I would say you have great taste and practicality. Also, whenever I use a tripod, I use a wired or IR remote. Have to play the ignore game with the nasties out there. Smile

Marc; don't let the dummy get you down. Unfortunately in todays world inconsiderate behaviors and being mean are rewarded by media. Any one can lie or be nasty and not have any consequence. Give them attention they deserve NONE!

I am 69 and use my hiking stick for extra support of my camera and I could careless what people like that think.

, there are always those out there that can only make themselves feel better by putting others down, instead of feeling better, by making others feel better.[/quote]

because they have nothing to feel good about

Hello Marc, John from Illinois here. I have met a lot of wonderful people and a few jerks in my six plus decades on this planet. I always treat people with respect, and never give criticism unless someone asks me first. Too bad you ran into the one idiot out roaming around "down east". To bad there is not an "Attic" out there in the real world.

Hi...I thought I'd posted this earlier this week...but have not seen it listed here so will post again.

Recently my Fiance and I went on a leisurely photoshoot for fun and relaxation to one of our favorite places here in southern Maine. I should point out I have a mild case of Tourettes Syndrome with which my hand shakes occasionally and I use my tripod and release cable to get really clear photos.

We were shooting away when a couple approached us and the gentleman had a nice SLR in his hand. I said hello...nice day and then be got snobby and asked me...in a condescending voice..."why are you shooting in the bright sun with a tripod and cable release...it's probably 1/1000 second". I said "for stability". Before I had a chance to explain my issue...he said "get rid of that tripod and get a good one...throw it out"...a little puff of wind will blow it over"...and then walked off.

I have a relatively new MePhoto Roadtripper I got earlier this year and paid $200 for it...which on my budget is decent money.

Needless to say it put a damper on the shoot which we were just finishing anyway and I felt humiliated by his unnecessary comments. Once of out ear-range my Fiance called him a couple of names to me I won't write here...but it got me thinking...what did I do to deserve this? I was just being nice and got lambasted for it.

Lesson here...always take the high road...be friendly...and please don't make disparaging comments to anyone. Nobody deserves that.

For what it's worth...have a good day...and remember to please be kind to everyone.

Good for you Marc.. Your a good guy... I on the other hand rarely take the high road. I prolly would no longer have the tripod (at least not in working order). Thanks to your good example I will try harder to take that... what did you call it? THE HIGH ROAD :) ty for sharing.

Marc, the person you interacted with showed you in one small conversation what kind of person he is and the fact of him or you being a photographer had nothing to do with it except for being the common denominator. It could have been him showing disdain for the vehicle you drive or the clothes you wear. Some people just cannot help but be obnoxious jerks. It's the way they are. If you had a good comeback you'd have felt better but that wouldn't change the fact that he's an egotistic ___hole.

I'm a decent but not outstanding photographer, but I am an excellent psychotherapist/counselor.

As you described this, the gentleman's comment was not about you at all. It was all about his own insecurity, his own need to shore up his failing ego. In fact most gratuitous criticism is not about you but about the critic's own sense of weakness.

I'm really sorry to hear this. Some people are just so miserable that they feel compelled to project their misery on others and if I had to guess, that's exactly what this idiot was doing. Please don't let it bother you as he clearly doesn't know one thing about you. Thank you for the reminder that our actions DO have an impact on those around us.

I just had another thought. Take pity on his wife - on the other hand, maybe she's the reason he's the way he is......
