Hi everyone! I am Jeanene. I am in search of a camera that takes good pictures in low light settings. Also, one that takes good videos in low light. My main concern however is getting a good audio sound on my videos. I am helping a band with their website and face book page by taking videos and pictures of their band at their shows. I need a camera at a reasonable price that will work good for what I need. I am by no means a professional and I need something that is easy to work with, but will give the quality I need for my project. Does anyone have any suggestions on what is the best camera for this project. I am open to all suggestions.

Look for a full frame sensor as opposed to any of the cropped sensor (APS-C, Micro 4/3, etc). They tend to do better in low light than cropped sensors. As for camera, Sony, Canon, Nikon, Pentax (?), etc, it doesn't matter. Look for what feels comfortable in your hand. Check a local camera shop as none of the big box stores will carry a full frame body. Don't be afraid to buy a used body or lenses from B&H or Adorama online.

Good audio through a camera microphone will be mediocre on the best cameras. Make sure your camera has a separate stereo microphone input and use two good directional microphones, preferably mounted away from the camera (try mounting the mics at least a couple inches apart on a Stroboframe.

First, what is your budget? Almost all newer dslrs will take high quality video. The addition of a hot shoe mounted RODES Stereo VideoMic Pro will give you very reasonable sound. You have to learn how to deal with the various idiosyncrasies of dslr video, but the results are excellent. Perhaps a dedicated hi def video camera would be a better choice for you.

You might want to use a wireless pick up connected to the bands sound system. The band's board op might be able to give you some suggestions.

Check out Sony's RX 10. The built-in mics are good, but if you need better, you can attach professional mics. Video is awesome.

The OP needs to understand the limitations based on what she wants, and will have to make compromises to her stated goals, but just responding with the perfunctory comment "no such thing" with no detailed explanation, is not very helpful.

Sorry to disagree, but when someone asked for a camera good in low light and will have good sound, oh and by the way I can only afford $20. It does them a disservice to recommend all these things that cost money, they already told you they don't have, or don't want to spend. You just lead them down a path they aren't going.

"Reasonable price" does NOT mean $20. That is ridiculously unreasonable.

It means "value for money" which is a reasonable request.

I'm sorry. I was not aware that you are the all-knowing Master of Photography and that none must ever dare contradict anything you say. Are you trying to get this topic moved to the Attic, where the OP will never find the answer to her request?
