Panasonic Lumix FZ200! I really don't think it should be counted as a "bridge" camera.

Why not?

The FZ200 fits in the same category as the Canon SX40/SX50/SX60, the Nikon P510/P600, and the similar Sony, Olympus & Fuji cameras!! It definitely fits the TRUE definition of a "Bridge" camera...

I am a new member who lives in Colorado. For a # of years I have just used a little point and shoot camera (Canon PowerShot SD550) and usually used 'AutoFocus'. I now want to bump up to a bridge camera so that I can have more features including a better zoom. I do not need anything fancy...I mostly take just landscape photos.

My needs: camera under $500, easy to use, a good view finder, LCD that swivels, user friendly. I am not interested in video or WiFi. The camera I am considering is the Nikon Coolpix P600. I am hoping I can get some comments and recommendations from this group. Thanks---Phyl

SX60 hands down unless you need to save $200 then the SX50, 50X @ 12 megapixels, no wifi. The SX60, 16 megapixels, zooms to 65X while the FZ200, 12 megapixels, is 24X. I don't feel that the f/2.8 lens on the FZ200 fills the gap. The Nikon p600, with wifi, a good one at 60X, doesn't shoot Raw or it would be a contender too. You might want to reconsider the wifi since you can remotely control your camera with your phone or tablet as the camera sits on a tripod up to 150' from you, handy for sneaky wildlife shots at the watering hole.

If you used a Canon camera before why would you change? I got the SX50 right before I left for Africa. As the setting are mostly the same as my Rebel t4i I had no trouble learning to use that camera. Boy did I ever get some great close up photos compared to my traveling mates. Not a one of them had the zoom range that I did. If I was you I would stay with the camera brand that I have used before. Here is one of my photos from my trip.

I returned a P600 and a DSCHX400v. I'm waiting for B&H to re-open on the 16th. so I can order a Canon SX-60 HS.

Thought I'd toss in my 2¢ worth... suggest you go to the website www.dpreview.com. There you can search by camera type/search by features/ compare cameras that look interesting to you. For anyone else who doesn't know that website, have a look.

That said, I still love my Canon SX-40. (One day I'll probably upgrade.)

preview doesn't have a "review' on the SX-60HS save and except for a description of the camera. I haven't found a review worthwhile regarding the SX-60HS.

Just an FYI:
There is no plug in from Adobe for the raw photos for the SX60.

So if you buy it now, you're "bleeding edge".
You're the ones that will be writing the first reviews, etc.
I'm confident that the plug-ins will be there, but the hardware may arrive before the software.

I have the Panasonic LUMIX FZ200 and love it. 2.8 Leica lens throughout the zoom and all the other items you want for about $400. It got great reviews and I love Leica glass.

I have to agree about the Panasonic FZ200. I have it for about 2 years and use for everything including low light images such as concert photography and sports photography. The magnification is 24X (600mm equiv.) optical magnification but it has much if not all the features you mentioned plus HD video. It has a great electronic view finder (very crisp) plus an articulating LCD panel.
The SX50 and 60 only surpasses, in my opinion, in magnification.
