Does an iPad with data weigh more than one without? Does a charged battery weigh more than a dead one?

Interesting. Would an empty cd weigh less than one that is loaded with music?

Just the opposite, I bet. The laser burns tiny holes for the music. I bet if you had an accurate enough scale, you could tell the difference.

EDIT:
"On permanent optical media - CDs and DVDs, there is a change in mass, owing to the fact that a small amount of the disk material is physically burned away by a laser when a binary ’1’ is recorded. Therefore, every CD will have some variability in weight after it’s burned - but not enough to be significant."

This might explain why my neck gets more tired as I get older.

Does a camera with a memory card loaded with pictures weigh more than the same camera when the memory card is blank? And is the camera even heavier when the battery is fully charged? Let's say you start out with a blank memory card and a fully charged battery in the camera. As you take more and more pictures, does the increasing weight of the memory card offset the decreasing weight of the battery? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

A charged battery does weigh more. Since a loaded iPad weighs more, the same should apply to an SD card.

If you are looking through the rangefinder preparing to take a picture, does the view increase the weight of the camera even more than capturing the picture? And, if you zoom in and out does the weight go up and/or down accordingly?

Not unless you record the data from the picture. That's why I never shoot hand-held in continuous mode. The weight increase is just too much. :D

Jerry
Take your CD or memory card to any good college chemistry or physics lab and use their balance scales - said scales can, when used properly, weigh a single period on a piece of paper.

Yuck. I could think of cleaner things to weigh. :XD:

Yes it would. I weighed one completely full of images and one with no data at all. The CD full of data was 12.3 % heavier.
no/shit

This question falls into the same category as "can you catch a fart and paint it green?"

While the answer is "yes", there may be more profitable enterprises to pursue. I'm sure our government would be willing to fund a study on either question.

They fund everything else having to do with green so why not?
