I have a feeling that Erik is in big trouble!

The big danger in that situation is not the camera, but now you have to have a new lens, and then another.

Great little lens--I've had mine for a couple of weeks now.

I had actually been waiting for Nikon to announce it--I figured it was an obvious addition to their 1.8 lineup. I pre-ordered from Amazon as soon as I heard about the announcement.

I'm glad you like it, so far with just the playing around in the house, it seems great. My Df came with a 50mm 1.8, a wonderful lens, but not very useful for me. I replaced it with A Sigma Art Series 24- 105mm, an awesome lens but not small or light, and not low light. This one fills that hole, low light and wide angle. Time will tell!

I promised myself that I would wait till after Christmas before I would buy anything related to photography. And there I was today holding this brand new item in my hands, just checking it out at the local camera store. After that things are a little hazy, and here I am at home with this gold box and a brand new lens, pitiful. Of course it's raining, so tomorrow I will dance between the raindrops and try it out on the Df.

You are forgiven.

Does that mean that I am now free to repeat the same actions? God help me! It is a sickness you know!

Yeah, that's about the closest to me and it's still about 80 miles one way. Luckily (for my wallet), not a trip I make frequently. :)

Phil, sometimes I'm glad that their isn't a camera store within a hundred miles of me.

I have a store within 20 miles, but my problem is resisting booting up the laptop and ordering from B&H or MT Shooter. It is easier than hopping in the car and driving for a 1/2 hour to buy something.

But if you drive there, then you have the enjoyment of putting your hands on it before you buy it. And no waiting for the gorillas in the big brown truck to handle it. :-D

The question is, why do we always feel that we need just one more lens? Or as the age old statement, "how many lenses are enough? Just one more!"

Not a camera or lens, but a book. I went looking for another book but spotted this one. I guess I have BAS as well an GAS. I must have fifteen books in in the "waiting to read" queue already. I'm beyond help like most of us on UUH! I am parting with my Sony NEX gear and sticking with Fuji. Not a matter of quality: I just find the Sony camera a bit small and fiddly. No arguments about Sony v. Fuji intended here, just a preference.

The UHH Forum is one place you can come to with your addiction, and know you are among friends that understand and even encourage you to continue in it. Winter is coming on along with Christmas so we can only expect it to get worse :D

I know you were asking a rhetorical question, but I think there is a real answer. We are often pushing our gear to it's limits: using our zooms at their telephoto or wide extremes, using the lenses wide open, setting the ISO higher than we really want to, trying to autofocus faster and quicker subjects, etc. When we have the opportunity to get a new lens or camera which lets us push these boundaries further, we have an idea of the possibilities and are very tempted.

Thanks Anand for putting your finger on it, of course that is the correct answer when all the kidding stops. The amount of info. that flows through the forum is mind blowing, at least to me. I struggle every day to understand some of it, but it does keep me going forward and like your said, then comes the equipment to keep up with the knowledge level. It is very much like a college course :D
