Refillable cartridges were from e-bay. A firm in Lincs UK. They also do bulk ink. I'm at work at the moment, but I'll put up more details when I get home tonight.

I have had excellent service and outstanding prints from an Epson Stylus R1900 (now R2000 with larger ink cartridges). Takes roll and sheet paper Up to 13"wide. No problems with clogging - I leave the printer power on all the time. Have used paper from Red River and Epson.

I've had 3880 for a couple of years and can't say enuf about its quality. My wife just got yhe 3000 model. Again, excellent quality prints. We have them on our network. She tends to keep her's set up for glossy papers, I for mat, so we use one another's (at least when printing up to 13")) according to the print medium. Virtually eliminates black ink changing.

Yes, I have one. It does an amazing job on both colour and black & white printing. Like most good printers, the ink is a bit pricey though.

I am in the market for a new printer. It has to be wide format, my wife is a big time scrapbook nut, and the printer MUST take 13 inch wide paper. Anyone have any experience with the Epson Stylus Photo R3000? Any other recommendations are surely welcome.

There is an issue with the printer having to clean out one of the black inks if you change from matte to glossy and vice versa. However, I only print on matte paper because I don't like glossy, so it hasn't been an issue for me. Also, I don't remember having to clean the heads since I bought my R3000 and that's been a couple of years or maybe more.

I really don't know how much ink is wasted, how could you tell? As to the black ink, I only use paper that needs the photo black ink, which are glossy or semi-gloss, as well as Epson's glossy fiber paper, so I don't have to change to the matte ink. I wonder if those issues are addressed in the 3000. I just like the print quality.

The Epson 2000 works very well. My wife scraps and loves the printer. Big advantage for this one is NO black swapping, both photo and matte black are on board..It is a 7 color (2 blacks) and a gloss optomizer. As in the other Epson printers it will do up to 13x44 from roll paper. Price ~ $500 new, depending where bought. Possibly consider referbs.

I can't speak from experience with the 3000, but I love my 1400 (replaced now with the 1430.

Epson printers are dependable and their customer service is outstanding.

I second this --- own two of their printers the 1400 and a 3880 and I'm very pleased with them. In my mind, I don't think one could go wrong owning any model Epson printer.

I am interested in printing larger than 19x13 but perhaps 20x16 or larger. Anybody have any recommendations?

You can't go wrong with Epson printers. They are always your best bet. Take a look at their lineup and you can choose the right one for your needs. Expect to pay a good price for one that prints poster size.

Baz, just a question (s)....what is the life of the ink, how long do they archive and will it void the printer warranty?

Also have a R2880. Had it for several years. Love it. Also have a Epson R380 for 'regular' printing. You can't go wrong with Epson. Had Canon, HP, Lexmark, etc... Nothing beats an Epson. BTW, the HP was the worst of the lot. Run, don't walk away from a HP.

I don't know the life of the ink. I've only had the printer about a year. I have prints hung in both lit and shaded areas with no fading or colour change to date. I will probably want to change the print before there is a change of colour etc.
As for the warranty, I do believe that there are current cases going on where the printer companies have been told that unless they can prove that the printer failure is due to 3rd party ink, they cannot assume that is so, and void the warranty.

The printer has two black ink cartridges, so neither of them will be emptied with 26 (not 13) changes. And while that is enough to suggest it's best to properly manage the work load, it's not really very much. Printing a couple of 16x20's might take more ink than one swap. Printing more than 10 prints between switches, which is probably close to a normal minimum, makes it an insignificant cost of getting better prints than the neighbor that uses brand X!

I'm glad you are so cavalier about the ink waste. It's the same 6.2ml of ink waste, no matter HOW you want to manage the work load. And if you NEVER print on matte it's a non-issue. Personally I print on mattes all the time and do so interchangeably, just because I can. I simply NEVER worry about what paper or image I'm gonna use next.
Epson's are great printers and do a great job, but they are NOT the ONLY printers that are great printers.
The Canon printers are as good if not better and waste ZERO ink in a black/matte change.
So there ARE alternatives for those willing to look at and consider all the good printers.
