I am considering to buy new Nikon TC-14III to go for my macro part of my photography hobby. I have option of either to buy TC-14III to go with my AF-S VR micro Nikkor 105 mm f/2.8G IF-ED or buy AF Micro Nikkor 200 mm f/4D IF-ED. I have the following dilemma: the Nikkor 200mm is quite old version but TC-14III does not do auto focus per Nikon's web page (http://www.nikonusa.com/en_INC/IMG/Assets/Common-Assets/Images/Teleconverter-Compatibility/EN_Comp_chart.html). Someone mentioned that the autofocus works for 105mm (9/16/2014 review at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1052071-REG/nikon_2219_af_s_teleconverter_tc_14e_iii.html/prm/alsVwDtl). Could any one help to make sure that the autofucs works with the combination of TC-14III and Nikkor 105mm? Thanks for the help in advance!

My AF-S 105mm F2.8 Micro Nikkor will AF with the TC-14II and the TC-17II (except at minimum focus distances), I see no reason to believe it would not partially AF with the III series TC's as well. I do not have a III series to test though.

Thank you very much for the quick reply! I have Nikon TC-20 III and it does not work well for the AF. Very slowly. But as long as I manually move the focus ring close to the exact focus point, it does AF quite well. Thanks again!

The Nikon 200mm f/4 macro is a great lens, it doesn't matter that it is "quite old". :-)

it most certainly does focus, with the Nikon 105MM 2.8 Macro lens
as well as the Nikon 2.8 70-200 MM Zoom lens as well, I should know, I own them both, and shoot with them on my Nikon D800

Before you buy the Nikon TCiii 1.4X tele converter, make sure the lens you want to use on the converter will fit to mount with it, because the glass element on in the converter extends out a bit, it will make contact with the rear glass element on some Nikon lenses. That why I bought the Kenko Tele Plus Pro 300 DGX instead, and it costs 1/3 of the Nikon. It works great on my Nikon 300 F4-D AF-S IF.

Thanks for the info! I have Nikon bodies D4S, D800 and D7000 now. Then one of the bodies (such as D800 as you mentioned) should work. I also have Nikkor 70-200mm VRII, 200-400mm, and newest one 800mm f5.6. These lens work with TC-14E III per Nikon.

One more thing I forgot to mention is, this Kenko can also be used on the older Nikon AF, and AF-D type of lenses which don't have the internal focus motor (screw type linkage driven by the focusing motor from the camera), but the Nikon converter doesn't have that screw linkage, so it won't auto focusing! Just get the one is best to suit your need, good Luck and Happy shooting! :-D
