Canon 7D just dropped to $1000 last night! Same price as 70D!

I've decided that I'm going to get the Canon 7D Mark II, but now I have one of my neighbors interested in buying a camera! I should be a sales person!

The point is, is that last night the 7D dropped $500 at B&H photo!

Which or another would be fine for her? More money than talent, i'm afraid!

A distinct con for the 7D is the CompactFlash card, let me know if I'm wrong on that.

Thanks, Y'all!

Actually the 7D has been at $999 for almost a month now. The price dropped ahead of the 7D2 announcement prior to Photokina.

The 70D is much newer, and better technology than the original 7D. At the same price its a much better buy.

I would not let the flash card be the determining factor in buying the 7d or not. After all millions of 7d users have no problems with them. Yes they are more expensive than the sd card but once you buy them they lest forever.

As MT said, the price drop happened a while back.
For a time, the new ones were selling for less then refurbs from Canon Direct.

As far as CF cards go I see that as a pro not a con.
CF cards are a very stable memory device and are virtually indestructible.
I've had an SD card snap in half right in my hand but you could drive a truck over a CF card and it would be fine. The ones I use in my 7Ds now have gone back and forth between reader and camera hundreds of times with zero issues.
The CF cards cost a bit more but that's not a big deal.

The only time I take out my CF is to change cards. The USB plug is very convenient and fast for plug into a computer and transfer of files.

Agree! CF Cards are also faster (esp write speeds) than SD. I just ordered the 7D MkII and if I use SD side at all it will be as offload storage.

The CF card is just a storage device, people get way too worked up about it. :-)

The 7D is 5 years old. Enough has changed to want something newer.

Just a curious thought. With the newer Canon cameras coming out (DSLR), with the suggestion of using the newer lenses (STM), what do you think the chances are of the prices of the regular/normal EF & EFS lenses (without STM) dropping. Wouldn't that be nice??

Or are those lenses (STM) only required when you use your camera to take videos?

Although a five year old model is on it's way to becoming a dinosaur, it might be worth considering for some users. A newer model at the same price point would perform better and get better IQ. This model, on the other hand, has better a better build quality and has been around long enough to get the bugs worked out of it.

$999 for the 7d? Darn - there goes my resale value! Going to have to come up with more chi-ching for the 7d MkII now.

Having sold some EF-S lenses, I can say from experience: they do not hold their value. Assuming the specimen is in good condition, the best way to buy lenses is at the used price rather than new.

Thanks 👍. It's just hard finding the lens I want used for sale. And Canon's refurbished ones, the ones I want, are ALWAYS sold out 😔

I have the 7D and love it. There is absolutely no con with a CF card. They are superior in many ways to SD cards.
I would go with the MkII for the auto focus during video making as it is a real pain not having it while shooting moving objects. if you do not care about video then the 7D is great.
