What a beautiful shot! And thanks for sharing your settings. Now, if the clouds will disappear from New England this evening, maybe I'll have a chance at a good full moon. With the rain/cloud cover, our shot at the lunar eclipse is gone this morning.

Thank you, Grnway.

A phenominal shot! Quick question, when fully extended to 600m, how did you focus? Auto, Live view or manual? I'm struggling to get my moon shots in focus. I use a Nikon 70-300 lens (no VR) on a D7100, so my effective reach is 450m. I shoot at f8 ISO 100 or 200 at various shutter speeds and can not seem to get it sharp enough. I use tripod, weighted down, cable release, mirror up.... nothing seems to work.

Thank you, Mike. I used auto focus. I took several shots and picked the best photo for detail. I used the contrast tool in Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and then used some sharpening. That's it except for it being a hand-held shot. I have steady hands. The 6D camera makes a big difference in resolution with center spot focusing. The camera and the lens make a great combination.

When I shoot moon shots EVERYTHING is manual - ISO, Aperture, Shutter, focus - on a tripod, using live view mode (this way you see the affect of any changes you make to any of the settings) and a remote shutter release.

Thank you, Bill. My shots are always automatic. I use the program mode on my Canon 6D. I never use a tripod and no remote shutter release.

I was totally manual this morning trying to shoot the eclipse, even zoomed live view to "see" better. Still had trouble setting focus clear and sharp. Usually not my issue. Could it be problem using FX lens on DX camera?

Mike, I don't have the answer to your question. The center focusing point is extremely sensitive and using the spot metering is the key to getting a sharp photo with the Canon 6D. If the moon is full, you and I will have a tough time focusing because of the moon's brightness which takes away the shadow and details. This is why I shoot the moon at 1/4 to 3/4 phases. I rarely shoot the full moon because, for me, it will lack the details concerning the craters and other moon features.
