I've never seen such a plant. That's really neat! Is it a kind of Orchid?

No, it is native to South Africa and is from the Amaryllidacae family. If you google Paintbrush plant you will find there are quite a few that are given the name of Paintbrush... Thanks for looking..

Thanks so much for posting these, Val! Beautiful pictures of a most unusual plant. The leaves are so much like those of an orchid, but the bloom is completely different.

You are welcome Donna I have never had one like this before, my friend has a pet shop and she sells plants, as I help her out I saw it and thought it different. It did not have a flower then and cost me about £1.75p so I got a bargain...

Thank you Sirius_one I had done the plant in
topaz impressions and Donna wanted to see what the plant looked like. The other two shots were taken a few years ago and I only posted them to show Donna how the flower came out on a long stem hence the name Paintbrush plant. :D :D

Thanks GRW100 it is quite a different plant and the flowers last quite a while. I have a tiny plant growing from the last lot of seeds I got off it and two bulbs growing from the side...
