Advice for Buying Lightroom 5

I plan to buy Lightroom 5. It's been recommended to me as a good image editing tool and organizing tool. I'm not ready for the level of complexity or expense of Photoshop, and I don't really like the monthly subscription idea. I would like to buy a disc with Lightroom, rather than a download, simply because I would not trust a download as much as a disc.

I've been looking on Ebay and there are a lot of people selling discs that they say came bundled with some hardware (printer, camera, etc) they purchased and they don't need the software. Any suggestions, cautions, warnings about buying this software would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think lightroom 6 is scheduled for release in March. Can u wait that long? Quite likely you'll be able to get the beta version very soon and run that for free until 6 is released.

I took a look on ebay, and most of the listings show plainly in the photos that the software is bundles with hardware and not for individual sale. Others are Student/teacher editions. I would spend the little extra and buy it from Amazon, Best Buy, etc.

Lightroom 5 is still sold, if I recall correctly you can also download a trial package from Adobe, install and use for 30 days then purchase a license and activate the product.

If you contact Adobe I think that they will send out a disk on request, but the download today is not bad. The disk is still sold many places on line and in brick and mortar stores.

I downloaded from Adobe, ran the trial, then went the subscription route so I could get Photoshop as well as Lightroom for 10.00 per month.

If you purchase on EBAY, be sure you get the license key.

Thanks. Yes. I noticed that too (not for individual sale). Was wondering about the legality of that. Once you buy something don't you have the right to do what you will with it?

I'll go take a look at Amazon but I think I did look there and the only availability was the monthly subscription, which I won't do (at least, not till I retire and have more time on my hands ;o))

Unlike PS, LR is affordable. Once you pay and download, you can re-download indefinitely in case something goes wrong. Everything I download I copy to disc or backup to a hard drive, just in case there is a problem, but that really isn't necessary.

If cost is a concern, keep an eye on Costco. Even if you're not a member, they will sell and ship to you?

Ahh no, not if the sale and purchase was illegal. And the entire premise of your statement is false to begin with. First you never buy software, you are only purchasing a license to use, and "not for resale" immediately invalidates that license.

I purchased mine through Amazon. I, like you wanted the actual disc. That made it easier for me to install on my 2 computers.

Disks don't make anything easier IMO -- if you purchase fromn Adobe, you can download directly from them and Adobe's updater keeps your copy up to date. And if anything goes wrong you can always re-download and install. Just make sure if you plan to use it on multiple computers, your license allows for it. I think Adobe allows 2 computers per copy.

Two Windows and one Mac, or maybe that's PS.

You also might want to look at Photoshop Elements to go along with LR5
