Unless it does something important on my PC that I can't do with Win 7 Pro why bother.

Thanks for the info. Decent read . But as for now, think I will stick with 7 Pro and Ultimate until they throw a few service packs into the new OS and provide something that I can't live without

He said something about Windows moving to something like a service instead of box sales. I am afraid that that would mean Windows going to the Cloud and charging a monthly service fee. There goes the Personal Computer.

Yes I heard something about that also, something to the effect that windows 8 will be the last stand alone operating system.
I hope not, where I live the internet service is quite slow and the cloud is just plain out of reach.

Right now I am on DSL with AT&T because my cable company does not carry Internet. I hate it. If I have to depend on the Cloud, not only how slow it will be but the cost as well.

Best to wait a long time after they launch 10 to see if it is received better than 8, which is a terrible OS. No sense upgrading to something that is not worth it.

This was a guess not supported by MS statement. Also we already depend on internet connection to get all the updates and security fixes. So, the 'cloud based' fear is not justified in my opinion, it is like Adobe 'cloud' that pushes updates automatically and needs a connect every 30 days (or more is you get adobe to agree) to maintain the license active. My understanding is that after 90 days the software is disabled, LR being an exception as only part of the edit... Off topic, sorry.

IF MS goes Adobe ways expect businesses that need a secure intranet (not connected to internet by any means) to not upgrade unless MS offers a way to circumvent the licensing on line process.

All these are conjectures, wild guesses as MS has not mentioned the 'cloud', only newsies. Since I trust those like the boy next-door with my teenager daughter (who does not exist*)...

Just about a year, as I did before jumping from XP to windows 7. Let the messy masses beta test first.

Thank you.

No mention of 'cloud' licensing in the last report from MS introduction. So the 'newsies' seem to have made that up in order to blab their way out of their allotted time on air. Typical.

Yep. An operating system that resides on a "cloud" sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I'm happy with 7.

In my opinion and that of many others is that XP2 and 7 are the best operating systems MS has come up with. My wife has 8 on her computer and it's pure junk as most of us already know.

Given my first statement, why bother.

I bought a computer with Win 8 on it, and after a little customization, I am getting along with it just fine. I have some old dos games that with win 7 I had to have a third party app to play and with win 8 everything I have is working great.
At first I had problems especially with that metro screen, but now it comes up with the desktop just like my win 7 did.
