Yes, agree with you, although I never resided out there, but when much younger, had a great time with friends deer and elk hunting in many places in Western Colorado.
'Tis beautiful country and have many fond memories being there.

Great work.... Composition and lighting are spot on.. I've heard many people say that the balloon races here in Reno are the best.. not for the number of balloons but becuz of the surroundings with the mountains in the back ground. You did very nice work...:):):0:):) Anymore?

This old cabin near Crested Butte, CO is difficult to capture. There's a fence in front, power lines behind, but the fall colors were so beautiful on the mountain I couldn't resist.

Curious as to what camera you are using?

WOW. This is an outstanding shot. I too love old barns and cabins but this one is off the charts.

A better memory, perhaps, was not big game hunting, but I recall being in the Basalt area during late October back in the mid-1970's and, then, drove southwest of that area and by nightfall, I ended up in a little town named "Crystal" and there was a majestic purple glow everywhere as if an alpine glowing.. From there, with my 4x4 International Harvester Scout, I drove upon an old trail which was marked with signs which said "Travel at your own risk, danger of avalanche" and I ended up sleeping in the back of my Scout in my sleeping bag because I was next to an old mining mill next to the Crystal River.. The next morning when I had awakened, I could see that I was in a very primitive area where Aspen tree leaves were still dark yellow and bull elk were bugleing, but I waited for the sun to rise so that light would be shining upon the old mill. When the light was right, there were spots of blue sky and snow storm clouds mixed, so, I took my 4x5 view camera and tripod and I actually stood in the shallow water in the river below the mill.. With a 150mm Schneider lens, I took a couple shots of the mill using B&W film..

Once that I processed the film back home in my darkroom, I enlarged print sizes of 16x20 and hand colored the photos with photo oil paints.. Today, a copy of one of those photos hand colored, is matted and framed hanging on our den wall.. That photo is my absolute favorite as it brings back fond memories of my treks into the primitive areas of the magnificent beautiful state of Colorado !

Doug, that is one of the most photographed places in Colorado. I have never gotten a real good shot of it. The light is tricky. You were fortunate to be there at first light, the best time. What a treasured memory you have. Thanks for sharing your story.

The colors are great and so is the shot. Those fall colors are what I miss the most from the high country of Colorado. I think that the only thing that could have made this shot better is if the stone wall were in the background.

Thank You !

I could go on and on about my memories of Colorado ! Another, was several treks into the Unaweep Canyon and several mesas in that area.. I recall an old abandoned stone shack/home built in the early 1800's which was located down in the Unaweep canyon heading towards Gateway, Colo ~ and further down the road, ,was Uravan, and I seem to recall a Union Carbide Uranium processing plant or mine being there? About the entire area was the beautiful red rocks, granite, and the Umcompahgre Forest/Mesa which is where I had gone bear hunting twice.

Ok, I will quit :D , but do love Colorado and several other western states too !

Yes, that old mill has been one of Colorado's most photographed spots, it should be restored. Glad you got a shot of it, I never did!
I grew up on the Frying Pan River which runs into the Roaring Fork at Basalt. Lots of good climbing and hiking in that country with good photo ops for sure!
Do you do Zone System photography? I do and have done it for years, love B&W!!
:D
