you might find something used in the $700-$800 range.
I agree that a good used camera would be the best bargain in this price range. You should find a very good condition Nikon D5100 with an 18-55 kit lens in the $500 range. I own the 5100 and it is an excellent camera. B&H, Adorama and KEH Camera all have used stock and are reliable dealers. There are lots of used items on Amazon, but you need to vet the dealers pretty carefully before you buy from them.

If you don't mind moving down a notch. New Canon Rebel T3s are available for $300.00 at Radio Shack. That leaves another $200.00 for accessories. I have switched from a Canon SX50HS bridge camera to that model with a Tamron 18-270 zoom and couldnt be happier
What model will you recommend for that price sir?
Thank you I will keep it in my mine. I think about it too.
What do you think between T3 & D3200?
Which one better?

If you go to B&H or Adorama and look at the used and refurbished units you may be able to find a Nikon D90 in that price range and the D90 will do most anything you'd want it to.

I was going to suggest a D3x00. I helped two friends select D3100 a couple of years ago, and both are still very happy with them. One took pictures during her son's wedding and was very happy with the results. She prints a lot of pictures as large as 11x14" to hang in her home, and the D3100 satisfies that.
The D3200 has definite image quality advantages over the T3, partly because of age. I think it is also partly because Nikon has emphasized IQ over other characteristics of the camera in the past few years.
If you can push your budget just a little, you can get the
Nikon D3200 with 18-55mm and 55-200mm Lenses ($550) and you would be set up very well.
That a very good deal. Thx :)

If you follow this forum you should have noticed that your question happens to be a common one. Let me point out some facts for you.
Any modern camera will do a spectacular job depending on the expertise of the operator. Even old cameras do a great job at a reasonable price. Technology evolves but we do not need technology so sophisticated like present technology to shoot great pictures. I have used Nikon cameras for more than 60 years, I cannot advise you on other brands but cameras like the D50, D70, D90, D200 or D300 just to mention a few are very capable tools. Just fit a good lens to them and the results will awe you.
Perhaps, if you want modern technology you could be able to find an entry camera that will fit you and I am not aware of the type of photography you want to do with it. For sure with that budget you are kind of short except in the second hand market but I have nothing against a good used camera that works like it should.
I am sure others will be able to give you a more useful opinion than mine.

I would go for the D3200...Although I have "better" cameras, it is one of the nicest entry level cameras. It is light, has many features, and in the hands of someone with any "eye", can shoot withh the best of them. What it lacks in "bells & whistles", it makes up for with resolution and just plain utility.....,Good shooting
I shoot Sony and bought an a100 for a second camera for $100. I use mostly a 28-135 lens. I get very good pics, better than my son's 7D and as good as my other son's 5DM2. Watch Ebay and craigslist. Goodluck
