On a photo tour in the Tetons and my Canon 7D started making a clicking noise when I turn it on.. It says err 20 and says turn camera off and on and remove battery and replace... Have done that. I do have a backup camera but would like to figure this out...am unable to download manual. Any ideas?
According to Canon DLC:
Err 20: Mechanical malfunction
Within the mirror, shutter or aperture mechanism (most likely), some sort of disturbance, error or lock-up has been detected. This error code doesnt specify where the exact problem is, but points to the cause being mechanical rather than an electronic gremlin.
I have also heard that battery contacts and/or lens contacts should be cleaned, but the 20 makes it sound mechanical according to Canon.
Good luck
Thank you for the information. Very hard to read a manual on an iPhone!
I had been in the rain for about an hour photographing a bull moose and even with the camera covered wondered if it was a moisture issue.
Back in the motel room about four hours later...I had removed the lens from the camera. I tried the camera again and no clicking. So far today, it's working...so maybe moisture issue. Regardless, I am taking it to our camera shop and have it sent out for cleaning and a checkup. Again..thank you.
