When I lived in San Diego, I used to be able to buy fresh cut bacon at the butcher counter at the grocery store. It was insanely good.

Haven't found that in Florida yet...

I have unleashed a monster. Keep it going. As they say in the Sonic commercial, "How do I know bacon? Because I am a guy, and guys know bacon."

I've heard of cases of those suffering on Anorexia who have been saved by the smell of bacon cooking . . .

OK, so here is a topic set to garner a debate (maybe). So here I am making breakfast this morning and as I relesh the smell of frying bacon in the morning I started to wonder - who makes the best bacon? I am not talking about homemade bacon where you got the pig, butchered it and cured it yourself or in some restaurant where they might have access to their own private supply that nobody else can get. I am talking about regular store bought or otherwise commercially available bacon that anybody can obtain. And so, let the debate begin.....Watch out Porky, you're going down!

I love bacon, try Hormel range range Brand, It's thick and close to home made.

Curious to know what you mean "I'm good for nearly the rest of the week"...please be careful Donna with your explanation, there are still several dirty old men that may wish to know... (not that I be one of them of course)...LOL...Tom

I used some apple infused bacon today. I cooked it ahead because I'm going to make one of my super omelets tomorrow. I let my veggies sauté in the bacon grease, red & green sweet pepper, jalepeno, loads of onions and garlic. When making the omelet, I add both shaved parmesan and goats milk cheese. After an omelet like that, I'm good for nearly the next week! :D

Hey Old Salt, I guess I shouldn't worry, after all it is bacon, but something that needs no refrigeration does worry me. I have tried both, frozen and pre-cooked, I lean toward the frozen. Also, when baking bacon I sometimes add flavors I like to the bacon. Chipotle, fresh cracked black pepper or a cumin/chili powder blend. Sometimes it's just plain old bacon.

Boar's Head brand. Thick or regular.

Bacon or Bacon Elixer added to almost any dish, just makes heaven better.

I must admit though, the bacon milkshakes, the bacon ice cream and bacon chewing gum sound a little odd !

I cook my bacon in a smoker. I lay it flat on what's called a Frog Mat. The grease drips down and the bacon stay very flat and even. I like it on the crispy side so I think it's not the brand of bacon, but how you cook it. I do like thick bacon on the lean side.

There are some pretty good local, thick cut slab bacon producers around that are pretty good. For regular store bought, I prefer Oscar Meyer bacon, flavor is not to overbearing and it is consistent in taste. I do however buy the pre-cooked Hormel (it's thicker) when I want some, "right now" bacon. Great for that quick craving.. Toast an English muffin, put a couple pieces of pre-cooked bacon on it with a slice of cheese and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Or just a good ole BLT. I would eat a lot more vegetables if they tasted like bacon.

put peanut butter next to the bacon on your BLT... whole new flavor.. been doin it for 60 years..kids do it, grandkids do it... lots of people over the years have tried it, and it stuck. won't hurt to try it..... if you like peanut butter
