Thanks, annacady. A little advice, I look at what others post and often ask myself "how'd they do that? Wonder if I could." And I try. If I don't try and take a risk, I'll never improve. I critique my stuff and think of things I should have/could have done differently - and next time I try at least 1 thing different. My point? I look to others for inspiration and instruction, but I compete with myself. Does that make any sense? For me, every image is a learning opportunity.

I do the same Pat. And I'm always trying to improve on previous shots. Sometimes I go back for years to the same place to try something different or to get a better shot.

Good, glad I am not out in left field somewhere. My grandson and I also look at NAtional Geographic pix and talk about them, what catches our eye, look for textures, emotion etc. His big discovery last week was that every picture - animal or person - the first thing he noticed was "eyes". Also using the photos to identify the direction of the light. It'd been a fun tool.

Wonderful subject! I am so glad Old Faithful blew even though a cloud came over at the same time. Thanks for posting. And thanks for commenting. I was away from the computer for long periods today so really appreciate your comments for all the posters.

You are so gracious! I thought they loaded them all because it was so much easier for them!! You are teaching me more than you know.

Thanks so much for commenting on the post today. I hope you have a wonderful day with your Grandson tomorrow. I loved your story of how you and he analyzed professional pictures. And what great discoveries he made. You are a great grandma.

How right he is, but I try to remember how important the 125 shots were to the person who took them and just scroll through them!

I try to bring the old manual out once or twice a year to force myself to learn something new. I thought those images were called a Cady!! I think we have all done that.

I have gotten a lot of encouragement to use PP and it looks to me like you will be able to save a lot of those "Hammers."

So good to see another willing soul step in to host a challenge, annacady. Thanks, and it looks like you've got us pulling our manuals out. At least I am. I see a few more settings associated with WB than I was aware of before.

Anyway if you've ever taken a bunch of images and pulled them up on the computer only to see a decidedly bluish cast to all of them, you have definitely pulled a "Hammer".
:!:  :evil I can't tell you how many times I have had WB set on "Tungsten" for low level incandescent lighting and forgotten to change it back to a proper setting.
Also had not experimented with the post process to see about rectifying the mistake.
So good to see another willing soul step in to hos... (show quote)

I have never changed my white balance as much as I did in the last couple of weeks. I can tell you one thing, I know where to find it quickly now!! The "warm" feel is what got me interested in experimenting with WB as it is supposed to really enhance the fall colors.

Annacady - a very interesting topic and one I will explore when I get back home and have more time to spend with camera! I usually leave my white balance on cloudy as it gives a 'warm' feel to the image but I can see from the above that it might not always be the best setting. Indoors cloudy is not the first choice obviously.... but I do struggle with the different lightings indoors..... and thank goodness for PP where one can adjust it!

Anna, This was an excellent challenge. I learned a lot, and I'm sure others did too. There are entire photography courses dedicated to the subject of understanding and using white balance. If anyone would like more information on the subject, try http://digital-photography-school.com. It's a free site, and has tips and tricks from some of the best shutter bugs in the world. BTW: I don't get anything for recommending this site. It's just one I found that covers a broad range of photography and post processing subjects, as well as being one of the easiest to understand. Thanks again, Anna. Great job!
