Thank you for sharing your learning!! WB has been giving me heartburn too but I have learned more about when not to change it than when too!! LOL. I did learn how to quickly change the WB on the camera (where to find it in the menu) so there was value in this exercise.

Last ones. So, I am totally confused with the differences within the same settings as well as how to know which to use. However, the challenge has made me aware of some settings I've rarely used and should give them more than a second look. Thanks, annac.

Thanks for posting the pumpkin shots. I love fall and those pictures really show one of the nice features of a fall outing.

Your shadow selfie made me smile. I think you may have started a new trend!

Poor Pixel! I thought the second picture of the flooding in the garden area gave a more sinister look to the water.

The sky pictures were great. I never can catch the lightening either. That is another thing I learned from that Canon Explorer of Light: Professionals cheat. She showed some marvelous pictures of the Perseid Meteor. Canon sends them out to teach and so she told us how she captured the shot. She sets up two cameras pointing to different areas of the sky each taking a picture every 2 second. She then deletes many pictures and keeps the ones showing the meteor!!

having a thunder and lightening storm right now a little flooding in the garden area by my front door, pretty skies couldn't catch the lightening though, was using my point and shoot Olympus SP800, trying to pry Pixel off my chest as I am typing this

I took some country roads yesterday. I could see the sun hitting this church and drove a few miles to find it. Then guess what! I tried changing the white balance. I did not like what the tungsten WB did to the field in front at all.

One of the other speakers at that photography workshop was John Gregor a Minnesota photographer who recently got a Master's degree with an emphasis on photographic literacy. When it was announced that photographic literacy was his topic I wasn't sure what to expect. Listening to him I found he was speaking my language. He was speaking about that everyone has a camera, most likely in their cell phone and they know how to push the button but they are illiterate about photography and how should it be taught.

If you are interested in this topic (and I think we all are as we are trying to learn) you can poke around at this website.

Thank you for posting the link to his masters research paper. I found his statistics very interesting.

Two taken early this morning. I almost always shoot on Auto WB. I shoot raw so I can change almost anything I need to change on the computer.

Same area, also this morning

During his speech he kept reminding us that he had barely scratched the surface as far as research was concerned, but he sure gives food for thought. How many times has a friend posted all 125 pictures of their vacation on social media when at least 75 of them should have been deleted because of poor quality!

You too are an inspiration to me. I need stick-to-it like you have instead of looking at my pictures and saying, "Well, here is proof that I don't know what I am doing." Then setting the camera down.

Thanks, annacady. A little advice, I look at what others post and often ask myself "how'd they do that? Wonder if I could." And I try. If I don't try and take a risk, I'll never improve. I critique my stuff and think of things I should have/could have done differently - and next time I try at least 1 thing different. My point? I look to others for inspiration and instruction, but I compete with myself. Does that make any sense? For me, every image is a learning opportunity.

No, I am not bored. I love it. The fluorescent setting really makes the blue sky blue! I think that Canon Explorer of Light said she used that to enhance the blue of sky and water. I can see why.

Thanks, Anna. You are an inspiration for hosting. You did it in the middle of a busy life too! I learned a lot.

You're right. Tungsten did not work here.
