#3 is my pick. Rick said most of it for me, although I find the head crop is fine with me. #4 has too many blown highlights on the top of the head. Overall fine use of backlighting.

Thank you! I appreciate it. I have been practicing lighting lately with my speedlights off camera but i didn't feel like taking it along to the park. So I can see how I could have controlled the backlighting from blowing out so much if I had off camera lighting much more. The more I practice the more I learn I suppose! :)

Thank you for taking the time to look and write. This was definatly a tough lighting situation to get the highlights even but the more I practice the more I learn. Thank you for all of your feedback. It is most appreciated!

I love them all. I'll have to say though, that #3 is my favorite of the group. I like the camera angle and expression better than #1. The backlighting is just perfect for me. The rails are not distracting. For me, they help frame the image and improve the lighting. I'm used to seeing images backlit similar to #4. Number 3 not only provides great highlights to the model's hair but, I don't have to strain my eyes to see that beautiful face. The specular highlights in the bokeh are very pleasing to my eyes. The crop to the top of the head "might" be better a tiny bit higher. And, the catch light from the reflector is perhaps lower than ideal. But neither of those items are significant in my view. Great Job!

really like 2 & 4. (I am just now learning to dabble in people, it is so out of my comfort zone..... )
Thank you MissStephie. Jump in! It is so much fun...always a work in progress! :)

Oh- yes..I had her smile. She is going through that awkward teeth phase so we did a lot more with the mouth closed. Plus she is an actress and likes to go for the drama! lol
Got that. To keep a nice subject interested you're wise to go with the flow.

They are all good. I would certainly be happy with a set like these. I like 4 the best, followed by 2. I don't find the fence distracting, but feel it lends itself to the mood of the shot.
One thing the comments here have shown, is that we all see things slightly differently.
I try to remember that we all look at life differently , and the same goes when we take photos and what we as photographers may like . Keeping that in mind , and knowing that what we see on our monitors may be different . I feel I can see thru your eyes what must of looked good to you when you took these photos . And keeping that in mind , I like them all . Taking blank back grounds for portraits all the time becomes boring to me after a while , so I like when someone has the guts to take photos like yours to tell the story . Thanks for sharing , Tommy
Lovely photos, did you use fill flash or a reflector to get the catch lights in her eyes?

Beautiful work once again!!
Low Catch lights are a little distracting, you need to hold the reflector a little higher, but if you are by yourself what can you do!!!

The lighting is just gorgeous! Great job.
Thank you! I agree...that is it beauty of art..beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That being said, the reason that I post here is because I know that there are some technical aspects to portraits that I would like to learn and understand to help improve the quality of my photographs. There are many excellent photographers here and I like to hear what people liked and what people did't like. I also like to learn technically what can be improved. In the end I can decide if I agree or not, but it is such a great process to help grow. Thank you again for your kind words..they are so appreciated!!
