Love the style. BUT, having learned to drive and get my license in a 57 Chevy station wagon with the big 4 barrel V8, it was not a great car to drive. It stalled frequently, the new 14 inch wheels, from the standard 15, cooked the brakes, and flat tires occurred several times a year. Our car had orange peel paint too. The 2 speed auto trans was better than the original Chevy auto from 1951, but was much less efficient than the standard trans. Then again, who cared when gas was $0.25 per gallon.

I wore my parents 57 out in 50,000 miles. Kharma evened things out when my kids did the same to the cars I let them drive.

As for the photo, there are distractions that can be edited out. The very wide angle POV is a matter of taste.

The Car: Yes, a 1957 Bel Air convertible, listed for $2511 when new. Production for this model came to 47,562. A true classic in what looks to be stock condition (except original had wider whitewalls.)

The Photo: Nice job on the low angle B & W.

Thanks... the car in the background is distracting?

My parents had one of these when I was growing up. Nothing but trouble as you indicated. However, they are now highly collectible. Zero to 60 in 12.8 seconds.

Thanks for confirming this... I wasn't exactly sure. $2,511 new? What a steal. Well... maybe not. $1000 in the 50s was a lot of money.

Mdorn .. love this image .. I love the metallic feel of it. Nice tonal range in your b&w. The clarity is amazing and I love this wide angle POV .. of course that is a person preference, but I think it lends impact to the image. For me, this car has personality!

Shooting this down low at a quarter angle really accentuates the angles of this classic car. You have done a beautiful job of the post processing. The reflections do not appear to be blown and the shadows have sufficient detail. I do think the vignette could be darkened down so that it isn't so obvious. As has been stated earlier the second car could easily be cloned out.

WOW this photo has great impact! The posters above stated my thoughts already- the terrific angle, the detail, saturation, and especially the metallic tones that you captured are all just fantastic. The front fender just jumps out at you the car looks SO heavy and mean. I think this is a great photo because it makes me want to DRIVE this BEAST!

I'm not a classic car aficionado but I love this shot for its composition, stylish monochrome treatment, low angle perspective, etc. I agree about cloning the other car away.

Thanks for the great feedback. I'll remove the distracting car in the background and soften up the vignette a bit. Again, thanks.

You had a much different experience than I did with our '57. It was my backup car when I couldn't get our red '65 Impala, truly a work of beauty. The '57 had great power. My only problem was that the accelerator would stick a bit, but I just had to push a bit harder. It drove great, we didn't have flat tire problems...maybe a station wagon problem...and there was plenty of room in the front seat for the two of us to get comfortable.

The photo is great. I like the b&w as well as the ultra wide angle.
