What camera are you using, there is no camera data?? This helps to check your settings. David

Just only the fact that the little guy is too huggable... those eyes!!!
And I would either remove the watermark altogether or make it a lot smaller and less intrusive.

I'll probably catch flack for this but, your watermark is fine. I am sure you wouldn't print it like that and it protects you online. (DMCA)I do not do portraits so I do not want to give any critique. I'm glad though that you pointed out that it is a base board though. I thought he was going backward really fast. ;-)

Thanks for all the advice. I have a lady at my church wants me to take family of four photos, any help as far as setting or anything else to help me is greatly appreciated. I guess I will try my new 6d. Suggestions on lens, metering, ect. Thanks

What a cute kid! Ditto on the 'watermark' with other respondents... My wife & I have an on-going discussion about this kind of shot. One of my grand-daughters poses with a big smile any time she sees my camera. The other one seems oblivious to the fact that I have one. So I get candid shots of her and posed shots of her sister most of the time. My wife prefers the posed shots & I prefer the candid. I think your shot is of the candid variety which gives it a thumbs up in my book. I have found the way to get the best shots of my 'what camera?' grand-daughter (and younger kids in general) is to shoot her when she is engaged in some activity and to try to avoid head-on shots.

I agree, too high. Get down to face level and the baseboard wont be lined up with his head. Look around at "great" child shots and not many of them are from an adult perspective, they're down low. Same for pets.

MHO- A water mark is to identify the shooter and should not overwhelm the subject. As far as on-line protection there is no such thing. The Watermark is easily removed and anything thats posted on the net is public information.

What aperture, shutter speed and ISO did you use? You may be able to tweak things so the wall in the background would be darker.
Looks like you had side lighting but possibly on camera flash as well?
