Am I going mad or is this truly bizzare??
Saw this ad in a local free paper. Is there a market? Is it a joke? Cat lovers please respond. [And anybody else!] :?: :?: :?:
Are there any Chinese restaurants in the area?
Loads!!

We went out of town this weekend, and boarded a cat. To the tune of $165.
It's ridiculous, but if you ever post this to where she can see it....
Enough said.
I have never boarded my cat for the weekend. I just put out several bowls of food and water, lock the closet door where my shoes are, and put a rubber pillowcase on the bed, expecting a little crap load expressing cat's displeasure with my absence!!!
(I am not actually that insensitive, I have a neighbor stop by, check the food, and give a little attention!)
My son and his Wife has two cats and goes on vacation every September for a week, the next door neighbor goes in the house twice a day to make sure the cats have food. Cats are independent, why would anyone need to call a sitting service?

We have thriving 'dog walking' businesses so why not cat sitters. When parents give Ipods to keep their kids indoors and amused, little wonder that they want others to look after their pets. I appreciate that 'kennels' were always an option for vacation times but now it seems people have more that one holiday and require most weekends to be 'free'. Its time to dust off the 'pet' stones.
I don't know about any market for cat sitters. However, If you happen to know a cat herder, they are worth their salt! :)
As a previous cat owner, I would never use such a service, but then I'm pretty cheap. But pet sitting services are not unusual. Given people's love for their pets, and the fact that some people have more money than they really need, I don't find them surprising.

Maybe because they don't have a neighbor to go to the house twice a day to put food out for the cats?
That's what the cat service would do.

IIRC, I think that's 'Pet Rocks.' :D
Yep it happens, I know an old lady who travels the country doing just that. She calls it "cat sitting", she stays in folk's houses whilst they go on holiday, anything from a few days or even a month or so.

When we go away for four or five days we have a service come to the house twice a day to clean the litter boxes, replenish the cat food, and socialize with the cats. It works great.
WE have a friend who has different single young people move in when they are goneĀ
We have had friends kids stay here overnight with the dogs. The animals tend to worry when you are gone for a long time, and can go unusually crazy when somebody isn't there for a long time.
In our friends case, think of it as a combination house & animal sitting- they own a jewelry store- and people may be watching for an empty house and not afraid of guard cats.
Yes, cat sitters! If someone is going to be gone more than a weekend, cat sitters are a great help. The cat can stay home, be fed, have a clean litter box and get attention if desired! I have a friend who does pet sitting and takes care of both cats and dogs! Sitters will also take care of your mail, newspapers, plants, etc. That is if you don't want to cancel those things. Personally, I think it is a great service.
