Weather worn, sun bleached, rain soaked, and paint chips that have been shorn off by the force of the wind - yet this old building still displays colors and textures that delight an artist's eye for hidden beauty.

This photo is the original color version of a photo that I used as an experiment to create an inverted b&w photo which may be viewed at http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-246405-1.html

That's marvellous Bob. I remember the other shot and I remember commenting but I like this even more.

Bob this color version has a much more aged patina in my view than the B&W version. The colors and textures visible here show both age and character. I really love this one. Good on ya mate!

Nice photo, Bob. The textures in the plywood boarding up the windows appear almost surreal.

Thanks infocus. Of the two, this seems more 3 dimensional. A lot of that has to do with the rich color palette.

Thanks Jim. I still find it fascinating that we can photograph something that is old and run-down, but still find beauty hidden away in the ruins.

Thanks much jaymatt. I agree with, the whorls in that plywood boarding would make a fascinating study in their own right. Perhaps I'll go back for a close-up.

Thank you Amy. With your eye for detail, I'm almost sure you will find some intricate patterns that will fascinate the rest of us.

Lovely image. The B&W looks flat and rather plastic to me. The color has depth and looks 'alive'.

Thanks iDoc. You seem to be in majority in your preference for the color version. The inverted b&w might be what I call a "failed experiment" ..... but then, how would I ever know if I hadn't tried.

I generally prefer B&W over color, but in this instance it is a toss up for me. Both are great.

Thanks for you comments loboimages. I suspect I am going to have to render one more image of this window .... a true b&W version where the colors are not reversed. You might find that one interesting too.

I like it. A bit of photographic art. The mundane made interesting.

Thanks Jolly Roger. Interesting that the colors in white blended so well with the bleached wood, but provided a wealth of texture because of the paint chips. It had a little bit of everything.
