But if I could afford that lens and the tripod for it I would use the money instead to buy a better motorcycle.

I like how you think!

Costco also doesn't sell high end zoom lenses or D800 Nikons. Their tripods are matched to the cameras they sell- something like a D5300 Nikon with a kit lens. If you want something sturdier, patronize a good camera store.

I bought the Dolica carbon fiber tripod/monopod for under $200 at Costo and can handle upto 20 lbs.. I use it with my D7100 and the 28-300 FX lens in the wind and it it rock solid. There is no need to spend over $200 for a quality ball head tripod unless your gear is over 20 pounds. They have the aluminum one on sale for $150. Compare the features and you will find it hard to beat.

I bought the Dolica carbon fiber tripod/monopod fo... (show quote)

Question for you: you said this tripod/ball head will hold 25lbs max? I have a very heavy telephoto and don't want any shimmy when I shoot so wondered if you've been using a big lens or what? Thx.

I use a 28-300 FX with no issues. Plus Costco has a no questions asked 90 day return policy on photo gear so you can't go wrong.

Just because they don't sell high end cameras has nothing to do with the tripods they sell. They don't sell Ferraris, but they do sell some good high performance tires.

Saw a decent tripod at Best Buy for 149 USD. It was carbon fiber with a pistol grip. Bubble levels for leveling the tripod. It should handle anything up to about 12 pounds. So unless you are shooting a 2.8 300mm plus lens, I think it will handle what 90% of us here shoot.

Just bought a Manfrotto 294 Aluminum Tripod with 804RC2 3-Way Head. It is used on a D5100 with an 18-300 and has no problem holding the weight. Very well constructed and so much better than my cheepo Dynex tripod.

You'll buy one at Costco for $125. Then buy one for $250. Then buy one for $500 somewhere else. By the time you are done (three or four tripods later + taxes) you will have spent the $1000 that you should have first spent in the beginning and have a closet full of wobbly junk.

Why don't you actually try the $125 Costco tripod befroe you declare it junk. It has a 20 lbs capacity and very well made. I would rather have a new lems than waste $1000 on an overkill tripod.
