I'm very partial to Op/tech straps: They're inexpensive, strong, and use the lugs on the camera intended to attach a strap to, rather than the tripod threaded opening.

Because of constant problems with my neck, I chose the bino-harness, it divides the weight of camera + lens over both shoulders. Still remember the first time I used it: My camera + lens were close to five pounds, I spend the day at the local riding club as my granddaughter and her cousins were in competition at the club level, carried the camera around all day this way, about 8 hours with just a one hour break for lunch, and had no problem at all.

Don't know the size of your lens but if it is truly a "heavy lens" you probably should not be carrying it by a strap unless the strap is connected to the lens.

Have a look at Cotton Carrier. I use one to carry two cameras. So comfortable you hardly feel the weight at all and the cameras are always ready.

Black Rapid. But yes, it makes sense to always check your equipment to see if it's tight before every outing. Just make sure you do that when you check your settings, battery level, and memory cards before each shoot and you'll be fine. I use them connected to my lens foot of a 500mm f/4 and it's 13.8 pounds altogether. I use a safety pin on the strap after adjusting the strap for proper length. I also use a little lub at the part that connects to the lens foot. This keeps parts from wearing out. I did wear one out and Black Rapid sent me a new strap absolutely free.

That is a relatively small/light lens - I would be carrying it over my shoulder attached to a monopod or in a lens case attached to a wide belt - holster style - with suspenders to hold the belt up.

This is the one I got: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00092KD9C/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . It's perfect for me all day with my D7000 and relatively heavy lenses such as the Nikon 70-300. I'm 72 and not as tough as I used to be. This strap makes it comfortable, enjoyable, and secure. Usually I don't even think of the weight, even after many hours.

My only suggestion is Upstrap ( http://www.upstrap-pro.com )
They have exceptional customer service and are quite knowledgeable in the various cameras and accessories you expect to hang on their straps.

I have them on two 35mm and on digital FX camera. I've carried considerably heavy lenses on them without a problem. They'll handle 75lbs max.

Though, I don't suggest letting the camera hang by just the strap. The weight of the lens will put a stress load on the lens to camera interface.

Definitely avoid any strap that mounts to the camera via the tripod mounting insert.

yes, like this ....... for longer lenses, I use a leather shoestring to tie the bottom of the lens case to my leg to restrict it's movement - like the gunslingers of the old west .....
