I've been shooting with my 60D for 2 years now and love it. Well worth the money.

Don't laugh, my current camera is an Olympus point & shoot, 2.1mp (C-2100). In 14+ years, the pictures have never disappointed me. I would like to upgrade to a DSLR. Primarily, I take pictures of wildlife in my backyard, scenery, and my dog (indoors & out). The wildlife come at various times so I would like to be able to capture them in all light. I do like to experiment with features. I would appreciate some input. I am currently considering the Canon 60D or 70D but am open to options. Also, what is the general consensus on "bundle" purchases?

I guess it really depends on how serious you are. Mid level I'd suggest the Canon t3i. I own one and it's a steal at
$600 or less because it's simply an excellent camera. I do lots of video with mine and the results are excellent at
1080. The stills are very, very good as well. Good luck
Go to a store and handle Nikon, Canon and Sony and see which is more comfortable for you. All are good.

Pappy, I know you're in love, or is it just lust??
If I said right now, "Pappy, I'll trade you this brand new 7d(not 7ll), for your 60", would you dump her like she just got an STD??!!
Could you live w/o that sexy, curvy, articulated body part?

I agree with tsilva, cameras are a feel thing, because you are basically starting from scratch. go to a real camera shop if one is available and hold them in your hands. I found that out when I bought my first Canon rebel, after having a Konica FS-1 35 mm, the Rebel just fit. My sister loves her Nikon, then it comes to lens. Enjoy whichever you buy.

Read Ken Rockwell's review of the D5300
http://kenrockwell.com/nikon/d5300.htmLast question. I generally have had good luck with Nikon kit lenses. I suspect that Canon's are also good. So if that's what you mean by "bundle" that's great.
On the other hand. Most of the vendors like to put together a bundle with the kit camera and lens, but then throw in a bunch of junk like cheap tripod, lens blower, cheap filters, cap-keeper, etc. All of that stuff is usually junk. They "throw it in" because it costs them almost nothing. My last buy was just a month ago. The "bundle" included a tripod. I already have a couple of good tripods, so I asked if they would lower the price. He said the tripod only costs them less than $5. If you want a tripod, you should get a decent one for $100 (Dolica) to $500 (Known quality brands) If you want a filter, get a good one, Hoya or Kenko's high end, etc.

Whatever camera you pick, go to B&H Photo or Adorama for good service and good prices. Check out the reviews on Nikon D5300.
add KEH to that list and check out their used departments.
Thanks to everyone for your advice and opinions. I definitely have some research ahead of me. We just found out we are going to Greece, Italy, and Spain in 2016 so we want to be ready with our new DSLR.
