Was this a review with the newly announced lens, or the current Sigma 150-500mm?

Good luck Sprocket, I have had Nikons for 40 years and been satisfied with everyone of them. My next move will be a D750 or D800e. But the Tamron 150-600mm comes first.

from what I under stand the D800 , 800e really likes the top of the line lenses , that tamron might not do it justice ? any one heard anything about that . as every thing I read the d800 shows every nook and glitch in a len's
that is not up to par with it .

Here is what I read at DxOMark and I might be reading into it what I want to hear??? Craig
While the Tamron may not be at its best at 600mm, none of the other lenses we're looking at reach that long at all. So to make a fair comparison, we have to look at how they match up across their shared focal length range. For example, in these tests the Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM is no sharper at 500mm than the Tamron is at 600mm. Meanwhile Canon's ageing EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM simply can't keep pace with the Tamron's far more modern optics; it's simply not as sharp when compared like-for-like on the EOS 7D.
This lens review uses DxOMark data thanks to a partnership between dpreview.com and DxO Labs
Compared to the recently-announced Nikon AF-S Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR, the Tamron manages to keep pace optically across the shared zoom range - there are some small differences in measured sharpness here and there, and the Tamron has slightly higher CA at 400mm, but overall the lenses are more similar than different. The only lens that comes out noticeably ahead in any way, in fact, is the Sony 70-400mm F4-5.6 G SSM II, which offers spectacular sharpness wide-open at 400mm.

I don't want to create an argument or sound disrespectful but, I disagree with you. When the OP happily states he is moving from a DX to an FX, why would you step in and tell him/her it is a myth? That really sounds like a biased statement. I made the jump from a D7100 to a D800 to a D810 and I am extremely happy. If he had stated he was buying a 4/3 or a Canon FX or a whatever, he/she should be supported and congratulated. It's about making photographs and we all know that most all cameras today do a great job and the reality is that good or excellent photography is about personal skill.

The OP stated what he wanted, so support him.

small differences ? if you or every one else reading this believed it . there would be no more 80-400mm nikons or of canon L lenses sold in that range . unless
they were the same price as the tamron. 150-600mm . and I have seen pages of comparisons . and I'm no pro . but the difference is there believe me . and it's the canons and nikons who are the winneres by a long shot . your not going to see any pro's switching to tamron for there wild life or sports shooting . not by a country mile .

I have shot with the new 80-400 Nikkor and was completely underwhelmed - certainly not worth the $$$ they get for it, and not at all up to their standard of optical quality. Compared to the older 80-400 it is noticeably better, but that lens was such a slug it isn't too hard to beat it.

Having shot with the Tamron 150-600, I can say that at less than half the price, it gives nothing away to the Nikon 80-400. Hell, even if it was the same price, it is quite good in comparison. Certainly equivalent from 150-400. I am basing my opinion on actual use, not test reports, but the reports do validate what I found.

I moved from a D90 to a D610 and have never looked back. Got a cheap passle of decent prime lenses from EBay and KEH, and I am a happy camper.

I NEVER made images that look like film used to look using my D90. D610? Easy!

Enjoy,
Dave

This is bugging me that I cannot find the review that I am talking about, It was a while ago and I have watched so many. However I do believe as I serf that it included the sigma 150-500 and not the new 150-600.

I expect that is true. I am very curious to hear the reviews of the Sigma 150-600mm Sport.
