Canon 50D shutter wheel does nothing

Hey hoggers, I am now at Arches NP and the wheel by the shutter button has stopped making changes. After a Google search I have removed the grip, reset the settings, cleaned connections, changed batteries to no avail. I am stuck using the quick control screen to make changes, works but is a pain. I guess this camera can be used for the timelapse shots, once set.

Anyone else run into this? What costs were involved with the repair?

I do have another working camera so I am not lost. :-D

I had a similar problem with my 5D III a couple months ago and, if I remember correctly, I had been using the "menu" to check some settings and didn't back out of Menu properly and that froze the function of that dial when I tried to change the aperture. I was freaking for a few days until I figured it out.

I have that problem occasionally with my T3i and a Tokina lens. I must turn the camera off, remove and then reaatach the lens and when I turn the camera on the situation is gone.

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately, nothing worked, however... I found that by utilizing the "quick menu" on the back I could still work the camera. Not as fast or as easily but as I shoot in manual it wasn't that big a deal. Once set it only needed checking every 5-10 minutes. On the bright side, or in this case the dark side, once we hit Oregon the weather turned dark, cloudy and drizzly so not a lot of photos were taken and those that were I used the other 50D and swapped lenses when required. Thanks again hoggers. Now to contact Canon repair <sigh>
