I've been reading about it here and there--it's already being called the D7100 killer(more or less).

One person went so far as to say that the replacement for the D300 is finally here and it's from Canon.

The D7100 is $1100 while the 7D Mark II is $1800. The 7D Mark II is killing the ghost of the D300s. :-)

When the 7D-I was released, it was $1700, so the 7D Mark II is only $100 more initially. The 7D-I is half price because it is 5 year old technology. If you don't think Canon has added anything of value to you, certainly get the 7D-I.

Exactly right!
If 2 Digic 6 processors and another (probably Digic 4) for exposure aren't compelling, along with 65 focus points and a great sensor, then absolutely get the 7D.

I'm actually staring waaaay too long at it, being a 1DX shooter... Smaller body, a little more portable when I don't need/ want to tote the big guy around ...hmmm.... :D

The 7D has long been the favorite crop sensor sports camera due to its high frame rate thanks to its dual processors. The 7D2 is a good upgrade to the original, albeit later to be introduced than necessary. Canon intentionally delayed its release so as not to take away from sales of its 70D model since they were to share a sensor. My hope is that it has greatly improved low noise capabilities as the original 7D was terrible for noise after 800 ISO.

MT, I think you nailed it. If the 7DII is not very much improved on higher ISO performance over the 7D the 7DII will be a bust even including all of the other features. I think you were very kind in saying that the 7D was 'terrible for noise after 800 ISO' even at 800 ISO the 7D is pretty noisy. And for reference I own and use both the Canon 7D and the Canon 5D III and I like both Full Frame and Crop Frame. Not sure if the 7DII is one my want list or not but looking forward to the upcoming ISO performance reviews. TNmike

Noise will be the determining factor for me too. My only complaint about the 7d is the noise. I Always have to dance around that issue. The 5dm3 is on my radar.

I personally cannot use my 7D over 400 ISO.

I saw a similar post where one mentioned the D750 was a 5DIII killer. I won't emphasize the strength of one model or brand by criticizing or belittling another. I personally feel that takes away from your statement.

We all need to remember, no matter who produces the better camera it's through the advancements, the consumers benefit by it through competition.

... and 2 Digic 6s to process all that it sees, quickly (but not quite as quickly as the 1DX, thank God!). Get one, Sharpie; Merry Christmas! :-D

Once the test reviews are done, particularly regarding noise. I may be tempted to purchase one.
I really like my 7D, apart from the noise issue.

Did you also notice that the new 7DMKII uses a different battery! I have two bodies, a 5DMKII and the 7D and they both use the same battery, the LP-E6. Now if I upgrade I will need to carry two different batteries. The new battery is an LP-E6N and is made only for the new 7DMKII and lists for @ $75.00 ea.

Have no fear:

The 7D Mark II uses a new battery pack -- the LP-E6N -- however, before you groan loudly after spending truckloads of cash on multiple LP-E6 batteries for earlier Canon DSLRs, we should mention that the 7D Mark II is fully compatible with older LP-E6 batteries: the new "N" variants are the same shape, but have a higher capacity. They also happen to be compatible with the older LP-E6 chargers.

Over on Photography Life.com Nasim has a friend at one of the big box cameras store and this is what he had to say about 7D MkII sales(from the comments section of the article):

David, I talked to a friend today at a big retail store and he told me that the 7D Mark II is selling like crazy – the D750 was nothing in comparison. There are many people who have been waiting for that camera. Pre-orders are going in thousands…

Nikon has not had a good run since the D800 launch. Pre-orders for all cameras have been very disappointing, partly thanks to the D600 fiasco that left many unhappy about purchasing Nikon’s cameras as soon as they are announced.

Just in case anyone is interested, my birthday is in November, which coincidentally is the expected delivery month for pre-ordered 7D2's.

If you need my mailing address, please PM me.

By the way we can refer to the 7D Mark II as a 72. It has a nice alliterative quality.

Hi Katie: It still has a cropped-sensor body so the noise isn't going to be as low as a full frame sensor like the one in the 5D Mark III or the 1Dx. I do feel it's the lowest noise of any crop sensor I've ever shot, though.
