I'm 72 YO and have been using manual cameras for about 50 years. I've had SLR's, range finder, twin lens and most all the old box cameras. I'm looking for a DSLR that can be used just like an old film SLR. I prefer to set my f/stop and shutter speed myself. I'm not tied to any make (brand) so I can rule that part out. Any suggestions?

You might want to go to this link http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/df.htm

An excellent review.

I shoot a Fuji X100s and it is very close to a film camera. No zoom lens but a wide and normal adapter are available. The used prices should drop some as its replacement was just announced.

Dave, I by passed the whole dslr thing and went from an F3 to a Fuji X-pro 1. Not for everyone I am sure but it has all the knobs like the old school. Good luck Terry

I like to have a camera in my hands that fell like I am holding something. I have a D20, D700 and D800. Like most/all cameras they offer manual mode but do feel like I have my old D100 in my hands. Good luck.

Fuji XT-1. It's a mirrorless camera but handles like an old dlsr.

Not a SLR but. . .?
The X-T1 sure looks like one. Even has the hump.
My X-Pro1 handles so much like my ole Nikon F.
Old world analog meets new world digital.

And if you buy a small enough SD card you will even have to pull it out and download every 24 shots. :D

I love my Df. It looks and handles like my old Nikon F2. It stays on manual mode all the time.

I'm surprised so many people agree on the same camera. That's unusual for UHH to agree on anything.
Thanks Mac

When the *spread* is sparse, few folks quibble and all eat happily, together :-)

I reckon there will be more "classical look and feel" cameras showing up in the marketplace because though aging and less equipped financially, we boomers still occupy a fair proportion of the consumer head-counts ;-)

I shoot the fuji X system. Specifically the x-e1. If you want the feel of a fixed lens 35mm with stunning picture quality look at their x100. If you want interchangeable lenses take a look at the X=e2 or xt-1. The lenses are outstanding.

As a film shooter, you will appreciate the film simulations in the camera - Provia, Velvia, Hi Neg, etc. all the old Fuji film versions are in there to tweak the jpegs so they are all set to print.

The 100 is being replaced by a newer version and the X-e1 has been replaced by the X-e2 so you can get some good deals on those. The Xt-1 is the whiz bang latest. Have fun.

For the lok and feel of a range finder camera you might want to look at the Fujifilm X series cameras, specifically the fuji X-E2. Set your shutter speed with a dial, twist the ring on the lens to set your f-stop. You should feel right at home.

Thanks MT. That's two votes for the Nikon DF.

Df goes with the old Nikon prime lenses! I got the silver one for 10 months already. Now you get three votes!
