I took about a dozen bracketed shots using a D3100 with a 50/200 lens and remote shutter release, then cropped and tweaked the best of them. I would very much like suggestions for getting a sharper image.

I find that at least 300mm is minimal for decently sharp photos of the moon. If you haven't done so try working with shadows & highlights and sharpening the photo.
