I have 2 cameras - 4 cards ( 2 - 4gb & 2- 1gb) - this makes it quite easy to shoot all day on a subject and slip in the 1 gb cards for off topic shots. I have holders for cards & batteries on both camera straps.

This seems to be another "size matters" kind of discussion, where the best answer is that "it is a matter of personal preference."

Reading through the responses we have a lot of different numerical sizes mentioned based upon varying individual needs, which prompted me to think about this a little differently.

I was pleased to see mentions of backups, since we frequently get posts about people losing work through accidental deletion, equipment (card / HD) failure, loss of a portable drive, or just the lack of a backup.

Our work should be more valuable than the cost of the card, so I would suggest all of us would benefit from working out what size of card holds a little more work than we would normally do on a specific day / weekend / project or whatever, and have at least two of those.

More importantly some of us need to look at our operating style and develop some kind of process to minimize loss when (more likely than if) something goes wrong. I'm sure most of us already have personal methods in place for that.

For me it's something simple like downloading my pictures to a computer at the end of every day / shoot, and making sure that the computer is being backed up the same day if possible.

I'm other sure people will have many better suggestions.

Working out how much and what type of work we do, and then how to make sure it doesn't get lost would probably provide some of us with a decent method answer to the original size question.

Good luck.

We DO think a lot alike, eh? (At least on this topic....LOL)

In my d7000 I use a 32GB Sandisk Extreme card in slot 1 for RAW files and I use a 16GB Eyefi Pro X2 in slot 2 for JPEG files that get synced with my phone or tablet for quick review.

An ad I just saw for a 128GB SDXC Class 10 card for about $50 prompts me to re-visit this subject. In the last go around, most comments indicated a preference for carrying a number of smaller cards. Since prices for cards keeps dropping, I'm curious about current thinking about using larger cards, understanding that having backup cards is essential. For the record, I have a 128gb card regularly in the camera with a 64gb back up card. I'm tempted to get another 128gb high speed card.

I have 4 x 32 gb, 4 x 16 gb and 4 x 8 gb. When I travel, i use a different card for each day and many times change cards during the day if I am going to photographing more than one event or location.
