Perhaps a juvenile rough legged hawk? Where were these shot? Very pretty bird!

Not sure which bird this is but here is a link where you can e-mail your pics with some info and they will send back to you the ID.

http://feederwatch.org/learn/identifying-birds/

Send your sketch or photo of the mystery bird to Project FeederWatch for assistance. Be sure to include the following helpful information:
a description of the bird
location (city and state or province)
a description of the habitat in which you found the bird
any behavioral observations, including feeding behavior and type of food consumed
which species the bird associated with
the size of the bird in comparison with a common bird

Once again, if you want help ID'ing a bird, "in hiding" is totally unhelpful.

Give a location where the image was taken - it usually helps with bird IDs.

Hi harryjblair, It is hard to tell, birds from the Western U.S. can greatly differ from same bird in the Eastern U.S.

It is a great help to let us know what state you may be from when I.D.ing birds.

Unless you are from another country, then those of that country would be more able to help you.

Yours Sincerely,
A. J.

I’m in Galveston Texas. On the West End of the island there is a lot of pasture land in the center of the island for Cows and horses. Huge areas of wetlands surrounding most of the island. There are a huge number of birds most of the year. I’m more into photography than birding but the birds make such good subjects and it’s quite a challenge to get that perfect shot. I find that the more I know about them the easier it is to find them.
I see you are from S.W. Pennsylvania. I grew up in Pittsburgh. The Forest Hills, Wilkinsburg area.
Small world. I don’t know how I got listed as in hiding and I don’t know how to change it.

Anyway thanks for the help

You got listed "in hiding" because you left blank your location when you joined UHH and completed the personal information.

I didn't see a question. I saw you say you didn't know how you got listed as "in hiding" and you didn't know how to change it.

I tried to explain how that happened. I guess I'll stop trying to help you if you think that means I'm annoyed.

What DOES annoy me: people asking for bird ID help, who don't give their location either in their personal info or in the post - because that info is fairly essential to properly ID'ing bird.

It happens over & over here. As a common courtesy, I would expect folks looking for help might realize that location info can be helpful to narrow down the possibilities, and avoid a mistaken ID.

I'm leaning toward White-tailed Kite too because of the white tail.
It is a small world, I'm two counties below Allegheny Co. in Fayette County.

At the top left, click profile, then type in, under location, your state.
Hope this helps.

According to Cornell Lab's Merlin app this is a red-tailed hawk, not yet matured entirely.
