Firebird:

What you have here is not a mourning dove but an Eurasian Coll
ared dove which is an introduced species that is expanding around the US. It may even be an escapee! They are still quite uncommon in many areas so you might want to contact some local birders or the Audubon Society because they might be very intereted.

Well that's pretty cool!

What are the identifying differences?

My wife wants me to get into birding with her so this tidbit will help me show that I am doing my part.

Rick your birds are the more common Mourning Dove. The give away is the powder blue eye ring. The birds that firebird posted have the dark ring on the hindneck that is the fieldmark for the Eurasian collared-dove.

Ah, I can see those differences even though the latter posts look like a young bird.

I know there can be quite a bit of difference between male and female, young and mature, and time of year.
