be careful buying insurance on equipment added on as a rider, if they find out that you shoot for money, even once in a while, they will not pay. Get the right insurance for what you do, be honest up front, and don't worry about finding the cheapest.... if you have a loss, you don't want to find out that you also lost out on all those premiums as well.

Absolutely correct. Also be careful about adding cover as a rider on your home owners / renters insurance. If there is a deductible on the policy it will be applied to your claim.
I chose to have completely separate cover for my gear using a replacement policy.

Be careful of that - you start sending in claims for $75, $125 repairs too often and you will be uninsurable. A friend of mine did that and she was cancelled and NOBODY will insure her. Insurance is for BIG losses, not piddly repairs. I would no even consider an insurance claim for things under $1000. Just pay it. :-)

You are most correct, this goes for ANY homeowners claim. Small claims signify and black flag people who will continue to make lots of claims, and those who tend to commit fraud, from an industry side viewpoint. A $250 claim a may not be fraudulent, but fraudulent claims tend to start and include a pattern of $250 ( "small" example only) claims.

The same company will not bat an eyelash at a $25,000 loss... or even ten times that, but will get rid of you for a $500 one.

Hence my choice of a specific policy from a separate company.
