Can anyone recommend good photo shot areas in Cape May. I'll be spending a long weekend there and would like to get some interesting shots. Thanks in advance.

Cape May is a beautiful Victorian area. The homes are just beautiful and unique. I would just walk around town and you will find all kinds of wonderful things to photograph. Get up early and go to the beach for beautiful sunrises. The Boardwalk is small compared to Atlantic City or Wildwood but it has some neat arcades that would be great to shoot at night.

Hope that helps.

Take a walking tour, hopefully there won't be many people in your group. There are many "gingerbread" houses from the turn of the last century, beautiful and well cared for. Go to the beach where you'll see concrete artillery inplacements from WWII.

Just walk around, you'll see plenty to photograph!!

There is also a wild bird sanctuary in West Cape May that has interesting fowl life.

Use the search option. There was a good discussion of this in late June if memory serves.

I PMd you!

Brings up a thought. How about a section for travel which would discuss locations?

At the end of cape may past the shopplng area is sunset beach with the offshore storm should have great wave shots. Out side of town a several parks one is a nature park which will have great birding and winds up on the other side of sunset beach. The other park has a great bird watching area if i remember correctly now is when the do the migration counts, many birds a lot of birds of pray going through.

There is an airplane museum in the area that we toured years ago. You can also witness a sunset on the Delaware river.

Don't forget a wide angle. The ginger bread homes are beautiful! Things to do= whale watching on a charter boat: wonderful, but expensive restaurants (Lobster House my favorite), and birding. Labor day is a little early for bird migration, but this varies from year to year. Cape May is under one of the main North-South East Coast fly zones. There are several bird sanctuaries on the peninsula. Don't forget the Bay itself. home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the Northeast. Also, unique cement boardwalk, usual Jersey honky-tonk shore stores, and the Congress Hotel, restored from it's John Phillip Sousa concerts on the lawn days.

Obviously, if you shoot wildlife, the lighthouse area is a must. Cape may is the center of one of the most significant migratory paths in the world. They have a great platform for shooting over the marshes. Hawk migration starts soon, so it sort of depends on when you are going.

The Cape May Bird Observatory has a blog covering recent sightings.

Take long glass and a tripod.

I'll second Sunset Beach. They have a flag lowering ceremony every night....at least they did several years ago.

They still do. Shoot slightly to the left to get the sun setting behind the concrete ship.
