I recently received an e-mail from "Greentoe" regarding photography equipment (camera and lenses) for sale. It says you name the price and we will find the seller. The equipment is supposed to be new anyone ever heard of this place.

Checked a couple lenses...Greentoe vs eBay or Amazon (new, USA warranty, Sony authorized dealers). On Greentoe you enter what you want to pay and it gives you a red, yellow, or green indicator. Red - no way; yellow - iffy; green - good.

Sony 70-200 f2.8 G
Amazon - $2998
eBay - cheapest $2998 (new from Hong Kong as low as $2500 - no USA Warranty)
Greentoe - yellow at $2300, green at $2800

Sony 70-300 f2.8 G
Amazon - $898
eBay - cheapest $898 (new from Japan as low as $730 - no USA warranty)
Greentoe - started turning yellow at $800, green at $900.

Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro AF Lens
Amazon - $769
Greentoe - yellow at $550, green at $700

Greentoe states they only sell new with full USA warranty, but don't see where you save that much, if any.

If your figures represent what you could actually pay. There's a substantial savings on the Sony 70-200 given that they claim all their sales carry US warranty. B and H have this at $2,995 so you'd be getting $200 off - who knows they might be willing to price match!

I can vouch that greentoe is legit indeed. I purchased several thousand worth of equipment from them over the past year or so, and whenever my offer got accepted, I saved anywhere between 5%-20% on the lowest price I could find elsewhere. As mentioned by others, greentoe only works with US retailers that offer US warranty for all products sold. You will be surprised to see who will actually fulfill your order (in a good way).

They don't always have the best prices, but more often than not, they do.

$50, $100,$200; Hey that is real money. As long as the goods are legit and carry a US Warranty, it looks like this could be a winner. I think I'll give them a try.
