Does anyone have the new Canon lens. The EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM
If so tell me what you think and if you have sample pictures I would greatly appreciate it. My wife and I are going to Ireland at the end of Sept and this is one of the lenses I think I might like to take. So sell me on it. Oh, there is the G.A.S talking again.
I have been looking at this lens ($300) as well. Also the Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM ($700). Is 2mm worth $400.00?

I like it. Here is one of my first test shots on day one.
The Canon 10-18 has gotten impressive reviews focusing on its price point of $300.00. In fact I just (like 1/2 hour ago) ordered one.
Ken Rockwell reviews it highly.
http://kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/10-18mm.htmhis summary of performance:
The Canon 10-18mm STM is optically superb. Add that to its ultra light weight and small size and the lowest price on the market, and there is no other ultrawide you'd want for your small-sensor Canon camera.
It's the best lens there is for these cameras, and the least expensive.
dXo has not reviewed yet. DPReveiw has only a summary, but hey! it is a new lens.
It is light weight, stabilized, and covers a needed range at a great (less than half the competitions) price
I have the 10-22 Efs and was amazed by it. I can wait to try the plastic giant. I had been using the 18-135. It is a very sharp copy. I wanted an UW and thought that I would end up with a Sig. I got the 10-22 some month back. It is very sharp.
The only problem that I see with the 10-18 is the plastic build. I would not leave a shade on like I do with many other lens. Then again I fell on the 18-55 and broke the filter. The lens is fine. Some of the new UWs are now showing up on used secondary market. Many think that they need a UW and then find they are not using them. I have a shoot planned to do a special portrait with UW. J. R.
Thank you all for the input. Mine should be here on Saturday. I will let you know how it goes.
