Hi Allison, Great photos. You are well on your way to capturing marvelous things-Best of luck.

I use Elements and have for the past 6 years. I too can't afford the big one (CS5) but there is so much that the Elements program does that I still haven't used all of it. Now the newest version, 10, is even better I've read.

My wife and I are coming to Sedona in a couple weeks and can't wait to see some of that beauty that everyone tells us about.

You are going to love Sedona, in my opinion it is one of the most beautiful places on earth. We have been there several times but this is the first time I am taking a good lense to practice getting some awesome shots with my little family. Enjoy your time and look forward to seeing the pictures, I promise you will not be disappointed you will want to go back a million times after you experience the first time :) Gonna try to get some good pics while the leaves are changing up there. I got up there for the fall since that is the best fall feeling you can get in Arizona and it is also my favorite season so I need to find fall somewhere. After living in Northeast PA, the fall here doesn't compare.

Hey Jack, you must be new like me, welcome LOL kinda funny to say since I haven't been on here for to long myself. All you have to do is find the area you want to post a picture on, choose a file and upload it and you should be good to go.

Hello Allison,
Welcome to the website. I am new here also, but to answer one of your comments. Photoshop is a complex program, and just when you think you have figured it out, you find that there are several ways of accomplishing the same task. If you go to Youtube.com you can find tutorials that are very helpful. Someone once told me the difference between a trainee and a journeyman is that a trainee has to know everything, a journeyman has to know where to look it up. I have several tips and techniques dog eared and saved as bookmarks.

Allison, consider that taking and producing good to great photos is the goal... right? The program is just a tool to put makeup on the photo to add sharpness, color and crop to compose.

If that is the goal, then do it the easy way. Use PSE or PSP and add Topaz adjust plugin to do the hard work in pre-selects with tweak sliders. Topaz mathmaticians do the hard work with algorythems,,, you do not work hard, you just reap the rewards of beautiful photos.

Hard work on the computer is not your goal regardless of what PS fanatic say or how "strongly" they recommend PS. For "status" you can always walk around saying PS CS-5.5 is difficult,,, and a Nikon SLR with long lenses is so heavy. Both are true true statements for any one to say even those without a camera or computer... you will gain a lot of sympathy.

You will be fine and do spectacular work if you get an olde PSE like 7 or 8, and save a little $ for Topaz Adjust. At least give it a 30 day trial. Topaz Adjust does photo work quickly and easily,, LIKE MAGIC. Simple statement, you do not need to know how to use the PSE beyond basics. It is difficult for me to convince people not to be hard working masochistic determined to learn PS!! and for what goal? As they said in Dragnet,, Just the basics Mam. And dem is de facts.

I have a friend who has her degree in digital imaging and graphic design, she tried to show it to me dummy style but I am just going to have to jump in with both feet and do some research and play around with it! Great advice and a truly wise statment for sure. I know who to come to for PS tips :)

So what you are saying is that PSE is just as good as the CS5 version of PS. Regular old PS is a little daunting and to be honest I think it is a real rip off...$800 better be the best thing since sliced bread. I am not willing to shell out those kinda bucks I would rather put that towards a new lense if PSE can do the same thing as CS5. I know tons of people rave about it but I am am new to this like I said and I really don't want to have to struggle just to learn how to use it to edit, crop, and do some cool things with my images you know what I mean.

Yes, to start out PSE is quite good; doing more than you need.

MAKE MAGIC: Add Topaz Adjust and you can do magic. Go to their website and take a look at their examples and then see a Webinar. If you sign for a live webinar you can get a discount code. The regular price is $50. But, hay, get a 30day trial, drive it you'l love it.

EBAY/AMAZON: Just looked for older PSE!! Thieves! PSE10 is out and EBay people want toooo much for old PSE. Did find PSP X-3 ultimate (with extra stuff) for "Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 by Corel $17.99" fair price since they ran a special from Corel for $30.

THE BARGAIN POWERFUL: PSP is more powerful than PSE. Also has help automatically at the left when you click on a "tool". Only negative is that addin topaz requires going to file/preference/location and click add where as PSE seeks addedins or Plugin automatically.

COME FLY WITH ME: Especially starting out you do not need complications of a flying a 707 when a piper cub will get you there easily. Topaz is the automatic pilot that will do stunts automatically. (but with sliders for how much of each thing, color, sharpness, noise repression etc. I have the full bundle, but I mostly use Adjust.)

EASY DOES IT: Make it easy on your self $ and learning. If you sell out $ do so for Glass and Camera. Altho, I use a Panasonic TZ3 and it gits "award winning" status at the club.

DAVID AND GOLIATH: One nite, a cell phone photo got the highest ranking!!! What! Yep, really did. It is the subject, light, framing, exposure low enough (set camera to -ev) to not have burn outs, reasonable noise level. All of these thinks you can do with a point-shoot of good quality.

PACKIN' A SIDEARM: Lastly, a P&S is always with you as is mine. If you have an expensive camera, also get a good P&S. No mater how good that $1500 Nikon and the extra $4000 of lenses are, if it is at home, then the P&S that is in your hand is vastly superior for the photo-op you are now watching. What pitiful words,"Gosh, I wish I had my camera with me."

Looks to me, that you have the knack for shooting in the moment.
As for the tech stuff, I leave something for others to do.

I like to take pictures. Editing them is not my for ta.
All though in other area's of my expertise I am a techi. In photo's I don't like to be. I't limits my creative thinking. Lastly I just joined today.
Good venturing.
