Hey, those where HIS words, not mine.
I would suggest a D4s neckless, but I saw somewhere that they are even more!
I think you guys need to send him a little care package. I mean, those of you that have two Df's and an 800 being used as a door stop.
Hey, have a heart, what are Nikonians for!!

Try refurbished deals. Otherwise you are out of luck.

Note that refurbished by the factory they have a reduced price but also a full US warranty.

The D610 body is on sale for $1900. But, if your current camera is a DX and you only have DX lenses then you will have just bought a $1900 DX camera until you can buy an FX lens for it. So its kind of a yes and no.

And probably, albeit arguably, better quality than the assembly line produced (with random sample checking?) versions that constitute the brand 'new' pieces sold at higher prices in camera outlets?

Refurbished pieces are tested and brought up to specs and hence receive individual attention and quality check!

Yes. It's recently dropped $100. Nikon has a new FX coming soon. It will be placed between the D610 and D810. "D710" would be a perfect name.

Has anyone heard whether or not Nikon has any intention in the near future of producing an affordable full frame camera. I am an amateur photographer using a D50 but would like to have a second body for use with my older full frame lens'. ~$2K is out of my league.

I've bought lots of cameras on ebay. Just be sure to get an actual shutter count before you bid. "Very few shutter actuations" is not accurate. Regardless of price, make sure it's not gray market. You want a USA model.

Are you looking for a new camera or a used camera?

There are plenty of sites which list used/refurbed FF Nikons under $2k.

New USA FF Nikons (610 or 810 or D4(s)) are above the threshold you set. The rumored new FF Nikon D ???, supposedly scheduled for Sept. release, - who knows how much or when or if it will be released?

If you want to dip your toe in the FF water, go for it! You won't be disappointed in the IQ of these cameras.

Hi folks; I live in England and recently bought a new D610 from a firm in Malaysia. They are very reputable, as I have also bought a flashgun [nikon] a zoom lens, a 24 mm nikon & 50mmlens from them, all on separate occasions. The D610 came well packed but with no manual, at a cost of £970 but last week they were reduced to £880, which is 1475 US dollars. You will find them on the internet--- Valuebasket.com So, there is no need to pay the same for refurbished stuff. Happy shopping, Bellwop,

Run, don't walk, to a D700. wonderful camera. I shot on one for years but needed 1080 video capability for a client and bought one of the first D600s. What a piece of crap (well, actually 23 pieces of crap floating in the oil/dust that polluted the sensor on early models). Then Nikon acted like morons and took more than a year to recall them all. In the meantime, I had bought a D800 so I carry that and the (quickly) repaired D600. But unless you're shooting billboards (and let's be honest, if you were, we would not be having this discussion) the D700 will delight you. Incidentally, Chuck Gathard who is my favorite photographer on the planet, has been shooting on crop bodies forever (or at least since digital became the norm) because he's so damn good, he doesn't need the extra image real estate. It is, after all, still all about the bag of meat behind the box!

They already tried that gambit, and it was called the D600. We all saw what budget buys in a Full Frame camera. Hence they re-did the exercise about a year later, and came out with the D610 which was a fix for the D600 and likely about as much as they wanted to attempt in "budget" full frame.

That's your best option at this time. It appears not to have the glaring deficiencies of the 600 and it is a different camera.

What glaring inefficiencies? Ken Rockwell has nothing but good things to say about the D600.

Note: You do not have to have a full frame camera to use your older full frame lenses. Here are a couple of links to compatibility charts:

They are all affordable.
It just depends on how you want to structure your life.
