Has anyone heard whether or not Nikon has any intention in the near future of producing an affordable full frame camera. I am an amateur photographer using a D50 but would like to have a second body for use with my older full frame lens'. ~$2K is out of my league.

Try refurbished deals. Otherwise you are out of luck.

Note that refurbished by the factory they have a reduced price but also a full US warranty.

Isn't the D610 below $2K?

You can find a very good condition D600 on craigslist for around $1,200 - $1,300. Just be wary of the oil spots. I am even seeing D610s for around $1,500 now.

No, the last rumor I heard was a FX camera priced between the D610 and the D810. It should naturally be called the D710, but I don't know if it will be.

In the $1200-1500 range you can get a used D600 or D700.

I'm with goofynewfie on this ....... the D700 is the big brother to the famed D300, both of which are still among the best performing cameras Nikon ever made. I was advised, by this forum's most esteemed Nikon advisor, that, if making large prints was unnecessary, which it isn't for me, then the D700 will perform quite adequately. Bought a used D700 a few months ago from a pro photographer in England and am totally happy.

Latest and greatest ? No need to buy more than you actually need !

pg, I'm sure you wouldn't do this, but it makes some sense if you are not loaded down with glass.
You can get a used Canon 5Dmkll for as low as $1250 and it's an amazing camera!
And somebody here, recently sold a 5Dmkl for less than $500. The mkl has the same low pixel count as the d700.
Just saying. ;-)

The 5Dmk1 isn't even in the same league as the D700.
The D700 is a much better camera.
There is much more to a camera than pixel count SS - or so you like to tell us when comparing the D800 to the 5D3 anyway.;-)
