Thanks for your comments. I have Bryan Peterson's book but haven't gotten very far. I didn't have time to change anything as I just happened on him as I was going into the yard to practice shooting flowers. I will keep shooting and trying to get better. As to the lens, I think I need that Tamron zoom. :)

You are doing fine. Photography is a process. not a result, There is always more to learn, more to levels to master.
Step by step, inch by inch, Your skills will develop and your confidence will grow. Keep at it. Your're good!

It is a very good start and you did very well. I am sure, although you are not asking for help, that you would like some feed back on this picture. If you do not, please just discard this information.
It is a very small file and I made it smaller with my selective cropping. Look at it and notice that I removed distractions so that the viewer could concentrate the eye in the most important part of the frame which is the bird. We all see and feel differently about our subjects and this is what I would have done with this file if it was my picture.
I can see that you used ProPhoto but forgot to convert to sRGB which has the colors all monitors can see better. If you keep on using such a wide color space just make sure that you convert to sRGB when you are done.
It is a great shot and let me repeat that you did very well.

Thanks for the feedback. This is the first time I've used the software and am open to all suggestions and comments. I didn't 'forget' to convert to sRGB. I didn't know that I should. Should I not use ProPhoto and use something else? I see I have lots of reading to do and lots of tutorial videos. What do you mean by 'wide color space'.

ProPhoto is a very wide color space meaning that it encompasses billions of colors. Neither you nor I can see those colors and monitors were not designed to see them either. Monitors and professional labs see sRGB, a much less wider color space and instead it still has millions of colors that our eyes cannot see either.
It is not my intention to get you confused, there is plenty of information in the WEB about color spaces.
I am not saying that I am correct but I only use sRGB and to my eyes I am very satisfied with the colors I see in my prints. I am sure many will disagree with me.
Learn about color spaces and then you will be able to make a more educated decision based on what color space to use.
I have a tendency to make things uncomplicated.

I just installed Lightroom 5 and Elements 12 on my new computer and thought I would try to download a photo.
This is my first attempt.
