CS6 - What Happened??

While editing some photos, I noticed that I can no longer use content aware in a new layer. It does nothing at all. I'm not sure if I pressed something to change it or what happened. Is there anywhere in CS6 to change the settings back to default? Do I have to re-install? :(
Please help!

I have CS5
No you don't have to reinstall.
Its covered/masked by another layer so you can't see the changes you are making.
One of the editing experts will have a better more accurate explanation, and a more correct fix, but what I do when it happens to me is "Flatten image" and open a new layer.
Yes I lose some ability in backtracking but it works for me.

I agree with Lighthouse, because I've learned the hard way. I think there should be evidence in the History that you have created a layer accidentally or one you forgot.

Does the layer you are trying to use have any pixels on it? If not, you are probably seeing a small circle with a line through it when you try to use content aware, because there is no content on the layer. I always make my first layer a copy of the background layer (CMD-J on Mac) and do all my content aware adjustments on that layer. If I want to selectively darken (lighten) an area, I add a blank layer, change the blending mode to "multiply", and then use the appropriate brush on the mask of that layer. If I want to do a content aware adjustment I do it on the copy of the background layer. The key is that for any content aware adjustments to a layer, the layer must have content. Hope this helps.

if you use Ctrl-Alt-Shift-E (That's for Windows) it will create a merged layer on top of the existing layers. This effectively flattens the image without compromising the previous editing. You can always delete the merged layer if you need to go back.

I don't have CS-6, but do you have the checkbox for "sample all layers" (if that option is available on CS-6 on content aware) selected? If not, you are trying to content aware fill a blank layer.
