Anyone have experience using photomatrix for HDR?
I want to use it with lightroom5 and will be a newbie to HDR
And just a little nervous (-:
Photomatix works great for HDR photos, with 3 to 5 shots at different exposures.
I don't have any experience with using it with Lightroom.

I have not had any problems. I use it as a stand alone. It will do faux HDR for single photos but it is best to take 3-5 for best results
Good results with photomatrix here
Just curious on the single raw photos ( my older non multiple exposure ones) if it will do a better job bringing out detail than just lightroom alone? Obviously I'll start shooting multiple frames from here on if I get the photomatrix software.
I use Photomatrix with lightroom I select the 3-5 photos and export with preset to photomatrix . After I finish in photomatrix I have photomatrix set up to import back into LR
photomatix is good. they give it to charity organizations for free, and students get a good discount.
I use it with Lightroom 5.5. You select your photos in Lightroom, then Export them to Photomatix. During the Export, you can choose several options for how you want the merge to occur and which corrections should be done in Photomatix, experiment with each those to see how they effect the outcome. When you are done in Photomatix, you reimport them into Lightroom or if you don't like the result just cancel, it's all very seamless. I personally only use the Photomatix to accomplish the merge and do very little tone mapping or other adjustments there. I wait until I get it back into Lightroom for sharpening, correcting chromatic aberration and other adjustments. I have had my best luck using a tripod with VR turned off, use autofocus to get the first shot sharp and then switch to manual focus to keep everything as much the same as possible. I use a wireless remote to trigger the 3 shot sequence. My D5200 is limited to three shots, I usually go from -1 to +1 and get pretty good results. Hope this helps....
Your other question about single frame "faux" HDR. You might try several different exposures in Lightroom, export each one and then try merging those in Photomatix.
I've used Photomatix Pro for about 3 years. I've never had a problem with it. It's a fun program.
Lots of good suggestions and comments guys. Certainly appreciate it.
Interesting about making several exposures in LR first for single RAW photos. Good suggestion about using photomatrix only for merging which
Is what I was thinking would be the best workflow.

You can also select an area of motion and use one of the images as that part of the image ( when people are in the shot and they move) The people in the shot of 3 images did move so I chose the image that would best fit. I included the wave area in the foreground because you will get ghosting of the waves. I do all my other processing in LR

Do you do that selection of which area to include when importing directly into Photomatix? I don't see an opportunity to do it before the merge if you are exporting directly from LR5. Thanks, this ability would be real helpful on a couple of my recent boardwalk shots where people suddenly "appeared"!
Trying a free version first and set it up to re-import
Merged photo into Lightroom. Any idea where now to find
It in LR? Feel silly but can't find the merged pic.

See if it is stacked first, next try synch the folder. it that fails look to see if it is at end of all the photos in that folder
