OP/Tech sells an accessory called "Lens Loop". It is a loop with a special coating that slides over the lens between the back of the tripod mount and the camera, leaving the lens foot tripod mount free. Per their tech support, the coating prevents abrasion of the lens barrel.

I'd like to see one on those with a ring in place of the buckle for use with a snap connector.
