I have made several slideshows with music in Aperture. If your mac is new aperture may be on it. The difference between Aperture and iPhoto is the control that you have. It does most if not all of the things that you were asking it to do. I export/burn the slideshow to my desktop and then develop it to a dvd that will play on all dvd players. My computer is three years old so it still has idvd on it. I have never used iMovie.

HI, i just purchased a Mac Book Air, and I was curious about Fotomagico, is it really a worth while purchase???
as I"m going to be taking my Mac book Air, with me, on my upcoming cruise vacation, and I will be shooting under water video as well as regular photography, which version of fotomagico do you own and reccomend??...........Thanks in advance for your Imput.........Owen

I use iPhoto all the time for slide shows. You CAN add as much music as you want, vary the transitions, and then export to IMovie to burn the DVD. Use the Help menus or take lessons from your Apple store. If I can do this, so can you.

Yes, you can add music. I've produced 2 different "movies" for our class reunions with hundreds of pictures and many songs added, various transitions...everything you want to do. I taught myself by reading books from the library and Googling whatever else I needed to learn.

I have been using MacBooks for years. You can indeed create slideshows with music in iPhoto. I have created several, it is quite easy to do. Too many steps to explain here, but google slide show using iPhoto.

Aperture make beautiful slide shows and you can take it to IDVD and end up with one you can show on TV. Of course Apple is dropping Aperture this year. I shall keep mine just for the ability to make slideshows.

You can burn your slide shows to DVD using either iPhoto or Aperture. Just need to export to your desktop.
On another note, much has been said about Apple dropping Aperture. Dropping Aperture is a bit mis-leading. It is being replaced with Photo and all your pics, edits, albums will transfer to Photo seamlessly. Aperture has gradually fallen behind LR over the past few years. Photo is being developed to surpass LR.

A DVD? What is that? snicker, snicker, Nobody burns DVDs any more. In iMovie, there is a Share button at the top of the menu bar. Click that and you export the movie as a YouTube video or email to your family/friends/clients. Plastic dvds have gone the way of the VHS tapes---that's why Apple no longer supports iDVD. It's too time consuming to burn a DVD. You can also save to a file if you insist and it's an mp4 QT movie. Folks these days want to view on their iPads, iMacs, etc so there is no point in making them load a dvd any longer.

I haven't done one in a couple of years, but when I did, I had no trouble adding music to iMovie or to the slideshow module of iPhoto. It had to be music that I'd already put into my iTunes library, but other than that, it wasn't hard. I just googled it and a bunch of tech support info came up. There were scrubby markers in the interface to manage transitions and the way the music worked with the photos and movie footage.

My 15" Mac Laptop is 1 year old, and I can do everything that you want to do. Go to the help menu and click on "slideshow" for help. You do all of this in iPhoto, which is the only thing I ever use, even for post processing.
