I just saw a clip on World News that stated that Caterpillar is bringing a new plant to Georgia from Japan, creating 1400 new jobs.
Way to go Caterpillar!

Maybe time to invest in some Caterpillar securities. 8-)
As the price of shipping goes up, the manufacturing advntage of other countries goes down.
In addition, all those people who have been working cheap, get older, more experienced, and want a raise.
Look for manufacturing to increase in the US. But, at the same time, not a whole lot of jobs will be created for US workers. Machines are making human labor obsolete.
The news article said it'll actually create a total of 4200 jobs, due to the increased spending in the community. They estimate it'll bring in $2.4 billion to the community over time. This is FANTASTIC news. We need more manufacturers thinking like this!!!! Can't wait to buy my new bulldozer!!

Gov. Nathan Deal and officials from Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties announced the $200 million project at the State Capitol.
In November, Caterpillar announced plans to shift production from Japan to a new plant in North America to produce small tractors and excavators. The company said it wanted to move production of the equipment closer to its customers in North America and Europe.
Caterpillar selected a portion of the 900-acre Orkin tract, a long-marketed industrial site that straddles the Athens-Clarke and Oconee lines. Caterpillar expects to break ground in March. The factory will initially employ around 800, with 1,400 jobs expected by 2020.
In addition, company and state officials say as many as 2,800 additional jobs could flow to Georgia and surrounding states from Caterpillar suppliers that are expected to move their operations nearby.
I did find information about them moving the production back to the states from Japan.
Through one of their sub companies, they just opened a plant in Muncie,IN.Unfortunatly closed one in Ontario over union battle.
That is what I was expecting, LOL. Good news though.

LOL! That makes 2 of us. I was expecting to see a green tomato caterpillar or some other type caterpillar carrying something in its mouth. So much for paying attention to detail. Cheers. ;-)
Unions will kill all of the good jobs if people don't deal with them wisely I used to live in the Northeast and I tell you a lot of jobs went south of the border because the wage was so high that they could not make a reasonable profit. I am glad to see work coming back to the USA but I hope that they face the facts that it can move out just as quickly if the workers get greedy.Have helped workers set up a union and have also worked or been working for a union shop that went to Mexico IR was that company. Unions have their place but not like the power to tell the people what they are going to do and when they are going to do it.
